Garbled screen

Hey there. On friday i switched my computer on, and it has random garbage pixels in groups, across it.

This isn't my screen, but same idea, but not as extreme:



I've tried:

Rolling back my graphics card driver.
Updating to the latest.
Using the troubleshoot tab to reduce graphics acceleration. Tried at all settings.
Use a different monitor cable.
Change resolution and colour depth.
Try a different monitor.
Run a RAM tester.

The garbage appears every screen, video too. It the area over a windows button disappears when you roll the cursor over it, obviously refreshing the new button image.

The only screen it doesn't appear on, is the BIOS screen. It even appears on the POST screen.

Anyone got any clues?

(Oh and the garbage pixels change colour, as if the buffers contents are being altered, if that helps?)

I'd go with duff graphics card too.

Dam... i thought as much... That's more money out now. Jesops buggered up my payment for my canon 450D charging me once £470, taking the payment and refunding back into my debit card then charging me again. As a result, two payments of £470, which i didn't have enough money to cover, as the refund went in after the two payments came off... Nice one.

I had this the other day too (my corruption was pink), so unless it's a new XP virus, I updated my gfx card too.

I had exactly the same thing and it was my GFX card. Cleaned it up, dusted it off, reseated it etc which helped for a couple of weeks but then had to change it.

Check the cooling... Generally, this type of error is seen if yor memory is bad, but sometimes if you have a dead cooler, the memory will overheat and you will see funny pixels all over.

Mine did this, the GFX card was dying.

Yep I had a gfx card go just like that (well, worse actually - I couldn't make out anything at all).

thanks for the backup of opinions. It's ok for now. Slightly annoying when you move windows as it seems to collect the garbage on the moving window. And scrolling these forums leaves long lines...

I tried reseating the card. No effect. The fan is turning also. Mind you, i did experience a burnt out power connector 2 month ago from the PSU to the graphics card, so i reckon that didn't help.
