I just found out what LightScribe is.

I have had it for years and never knew what it was.

I just assumed a LightScribe DVD player was just like a better version of a non-LightScribe one - faster or something - like surround sound audio is better than stereo audio - just a term for something better.

I probably won't use it though - but it is all rather exciting - makes me want to poke my fingers into my DVD drive and tattoo them.

It's good when you have to send DVDs/CDs to a client or VC, and it makes a higher quality image than printed DVDs, except you are limited to grayscale.

Don't you have to purchase special CD/DVDs for them though?

yes you do, but they're not much more expensive

But the process itself seems to be extremely slow. For me at least.

I have a lightscribe writer but never used it, i heard they was of poor quality print?

You need to overburn 2-3 times for a good dark image; can take a long time.

LightScribe sucks quality-wise. But I use LightScribe media with a TDK LPCW-100 label printer, that quality is very good, at least for text. The problem is that the LPCW-100 is not the best supported piece of hardware on the planet; it does not have Vista drivers and the OS X software is not the best either (but usually does the job).
