Website hosting service - suggestions?..

I'm looking for a cheap (read: free) ISP to host a website for my game, hack3r. I really don't like the free file hosting services I've used for my demos, and I'd need my own website anyway if/when I start selling my game.
Anyway, I don't need or expect many bells and whistles, or huge amounts of bandwidth. I just need a free service that'll host my website (which I've already created), and my demo. The whole folder of images, files, and HTML pages comes to less then 2 mb.
If it's possible, I don't want a million ads clogging up my site, either..
Any suggestions??

Google Sites might be an option (might because I dunno if you can host files for download on it -- you'll have to investigate. EDIT: Seeing as you're on the internet you might already have a bit of storage space from your service provider... that's how I split mine: Site on WordPress, downloads on complementary space from ISP.)

Well, if you can put, say, images as seperate files, then have your page load them, then it would probably work. Just put a link to the zip file, and the download message should come up.

Id go with something like 1&1 even though its not free. It's gone upto $3.99 from $2.99 now, but you get a free domain, 10gb space and 300gb of bandwidth and pay every 6 months which comes to $24.

Have had really good service from them the last few years.

Can't really get much thats good completely free.

hostgator offer unlimitted things and are pretty cheap.

Google pages will do the job, easy to use, free, loads of space.

I'm looking more and more at 1&1 (1and1?). It looks great; lots of tools, free stuff, huge bandwidth, plus options for e-commerce once I'm at that point.

So far they're the best I can find, plus they've won lots of awards (could mean nothing).
And couldn't I sue them for missed profits if that happens?

Can't remember, was a couple of years ago. They might well have improved a lot since then.

Definitely worth digging around with Google, though. If they're still bad there'll be no shortage of people ready to talk about it.

I've been with 1&1 for a few years. They've been through some bad times, but the last 12 months have been pretty good, so pretty happy with sticking with them myself. Access to the MySQL server cluster did keep breaking about 12 months ago which was a pain for my forum, but I've never had downtime for my raw HTML sites.

You can do basic ecommerce with most (?all) hosting packages if you have less than 10 products, not tried it myself though as I sell via SWreg.

I originally got their free hosting trial for 3 years and had no problems, so I got their business plan for a while but Flow took so long I decided to cut back to 1&1 home. I've had maybe a couple of instances of downtime in the past and I've used them for about 5/6 years now. Even when it was free it was decent. Unlike dreamhost which one of our team members has because of included SVN support (the only good thing about it I can see). That's been pretty ropey indeed but a very cheap way to get large SVN repository.

You really should check your ISP. Really isn't that hard.

When I went searching for new hosting (after already going through about 5 horrid free hosts) I checked into it, and in one quick call to customer service they had me up and running.

From experience, its a million times nicer, and I have a lot of space and bandwidth.

But I have heard filefront.com is nice. Can you host a page from filefront?

No, were changing flows name to something else soon to avoid confusion between the game, and flow3D fluid dynamics software. Our Flow is a game dev framework that includes Ogre wrapped to blitzmax. Been in development for the best part of two years now.
