"Debug" DirextX Runtime

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/"Debug" DirextX Runtime

I recently installed TrackMania Nations Forever and when I ran it for the first time was informed that I was using "DEBUG DirectX Runtime" and that performance would be slow.

I have always downloaded and installed updates to DirectX whenever I learned they were available - the most recent being the 9.0c one from August. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to uninstall the "debug" version and install a "non-debug" one?

I believe it'll be in Control Panel -> DirectX under the Direct3D tab.

Well, the debug runtime is installed by the DirectX SDK along with a DirectX control panel which you can use to switch between the debug and retail runtimes.

If for some reason you don't have the DirectX control panel installed, then try googling for: directx.cpl

Place it in your Windows\system32 folder and then launch the Windows control panel in your start menu. You should then find the DirectX control panel icon.

There's loads of hits on google using 'Trackmania debug directx runtime'
This is just one of them.

I have narrowed it down to DirectPlay - which seems to be the only DirectX module which is set to "Use debug version". Unfortunately I cannot change this as it is also greyed out (in fact all tabs have this frame greyed out). Not to worry.

Thanks all for the prompt replies.
