Annihilation of planet delayed
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Annihilation of planet delayed Damned! Guess I'll have to pay all those MasterCard bills after all.
I have a friend from school who is working on that project. He assures me everything will be ok - I'll be having words with him if he's wrong, ha.

Good, tell him if they delay the destruction of the earth one more time I'm going to start having a fit...
The fire brigade were called out after a tonne of liquid helium leaked into the tunnel at Cern, near Geneva.
So, they'd a lot of squeaky voiced scientists for a while....
lol
The funniest thing about all of this?
The first high-energy collisions are currently scheduled for late November.
A legal challenge has been issued... the plaintiffs demand an injunction of at least four months, and possibly forever, until the safety of the collider can be "within industry standards." The trial is set to begin on June 16, 2009. :)

I wasn't aware that, outside of CERN, there was a super collider industry. I suggest they leave it until at least after Christmas - I want to snog my last turkey.
Darn it, I was really excited about that. I've always wanted to go through a black hole... Well, there's always next year, I guess.
..when they warm up those magnets and open for replacement Im sure they will see inside painted message..'Puki was here...now hang it over..' :)
PUHAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh my god, I thought I'd never reply to a thread like that, but reading the "industry standard" thing is just too much! ROFL!
Can't even find a decent analogy for that ridiculousness. How about that:
- we found out how to beam someone, but the highway patrol needs to approve it first.
...I certainly can't think of a second analogy right now... can anyone?

If they are gonna make it a blackhole it seems damned unfair their gonna do it inside the planet. At least if they did it a few miles from earth we could all have time to build a little spaceship each to fly away. Obviously we'd need a nuclear reactor each coz it'd cost too much for enough fuel to get any decent distance. Oh yeah, we'd need a garden on each of our ships to eat stuff. I'm nicking my design from one thats already been proven, in a film anyway (;-)
Does anyone know what film it's from ? Oh, I'd take the mangled shopping trolley of the end of mine.

..i always wonder why space stations and generally ships, always have some 'stick' shape, while sphere is absolutely best possible shape for maneuver in space as well as best ratio surface-volume..just rotate thing and get gravity..all these 'stick' style ships looking really funny..
Well, I reckon the spaceship in this film has had time to get past beta stage (36 years old!) A sphere shaped space station is a bit radical for me.
It's from the movie "Silent Running" with Bruce Dern, title song sung by Joan Baez. Great old Sci-Fi movie with three cute gardening robots.
Looks like it's from Silent Running. Those poor robots.
yep, it was Silent running, whilst searching for my means of escape from the black hole/earth I seen a snapshot of one of the people inside the robot - it was a double amputee, kinda spolied the illusion that the robots were hi-tech. Good film though,
