Brilliant Amiga Emulator

Just had to share, I was blown away by the functionality within this emulator, had a brief play of A-Train on Hi-Res within it - the music to that used to drive my wife insane (;-)

Is ther any chance Blitz Research might release their Blitz Basic 2.1 as a lha / adf file to plop straight into the emulator ? I appreciate there is a chance it is still creating revenue - it was a very accomplished product.

UAE/WinUAE's been going for well over 10 years now, and sadly kicks the ass off a real Amiga performance-wise. Amiga Blitz went GPL around 2000.

If you only want to play your old games ..use Fellow. Start, insert disc (adf) and go. UAE is a monster, good to emulate bigger Amigas, but to big and complicate only the play good old soft.

Every time I think about buying a new Amiga, I just settle for a go on WinUAE. It is rather excellent.

what would have made the migration from amiga to pc for nigh on all of us ultra easy would have been a way of getting the pc floppy drive to read amiga disks without the need for a hardware fix (iir someone did release a floppy drive for pcs but it was too expencive for 99% of the amiga populous) just a small dos command like

amidos A:

and untill turned off it would read and write 880k or whatever floppies (barring special format game disks that is)

There's a non-hardware way fo reading amiga disks in a PC, but it involved using two floppy drives.

But then, every Amiga game, util, diskmag, packmag, PD disk... everything is available via bittorrent. If you need to transfer your own data from an Amiga, there are plenty of ways to do it.

*ahem* buying a second floppy drive makes it a hardware way ;)

Note you still need legal Amiga roms, right?

@Imaginary Human, yes, there is hardware available to extract 'your' copy of a ROM from your Amiga. Google it.

Anyone experienced a problem with AIAB whereby seven out of eight times when starting the workbench comes up but with no icons/functionality ?

Nope- although I did omit to say that I haven't used it in an age, so I don't know what state it's currently in.

When its starting if I force it to start in lo-rez it works nearly every time. But when Selecting accept on UAESCSI cannot be found notifier box, it'll load up a blank workbench screen 70 percent of the time.

When it does work , it doesn't half look swish though. The kind of Amiga desktop I hankered after back in the day....

Am learning the configuration window of the WINUAE seems to wipe the hard drive areas installed when you run the AIB installer if you messs about with the memory... can be a bit of a configuration thing.

Any help with diagnosing the problem appreciated, should get my wireless hook-up to my amiga tomorrow. It seems like kicking it off in lo-res from the WIN UAE set up GUI helps.

Sort out our s:startup-system and/or s:user-startup to get rid of the UAESCSI reference.

If a window opens (e.g., the requester you are seeing) before Workbench is fully loaded, it prevents the resolution switch when screen preferences are loaded.

I've never used AIAB, so I can't give a line-by-line fix.

thanks Vinyl for the tips, I received my Wirelss network card today, but am a bit coded/burnt out by 10 hours of coding at work. I'm doing some redwine now.... later I will be re-ingorated and ready to install my gear.

I still program on Caprice (Amstrad Emulator), pointless.... But emulators are our outputs for midlife crisis's!!! :)

I am thinking of buying an actual Amstard 6128, and hook it up to my tv as I found my old Amstrad to TV box at my mams house!!!

yeah, the first one I ever used was a ZX81, typed in a crappy space invaders game on a membrame keyboard. First decent computer was a spectrum, wrote a battleships game on that. First monster computer was Amiga 1200 which in assocaition with Blitz Basic 2.1 was WAY ahead of it's time. I'm still not on the 'gotta have the latest n greatest whizzy ist processor bandwagon.

I reckon its the root of some evil on my 'real' Amiga 1200 as well.

I had the Amiga, especially the A1200, figured out from the hardware up. Just about the time I really understood 68K ASM and the Amiga custom chips, the scene died and PC's became popular.

I miss having that kind of intimate knowledge of a computer system.

It's really the one thing that keeps me coming back to WinUAE and occasionally visiting the website where you can buy a real A1200.

If someone offered me an A1200 with Blizzard 060 board, I'd probably buy it.

Do the roms still have to be legal copies?
