What Technology would you like to see?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What Technology would you like to see?

I'd like to see cloning of human bodies for the purpose of treatment for diseases.

Also I'd like to (when I'm old a grey) pay a fee to have my body cloned to the state it was when I was 19 and then have my brain transfered in to it.

I'd like to see a Super Computer Capable of rendering physical matter much like a holodec in Star Trek. Then I could spend my holidays and spare time Sky Diving from the moon. :)

A futuristic mug with the technology to keep a cup of tea at the optimum temperature and sound an alarm when my dunking biscuit is losing integrity.
... and a teleport.
<EDIT> and the ability to draw to a Bmax texturebuffer.

I'd like to see a small handheld device that could be used for voice communication over long distances, a bit like a "communicator" seen in Star Trek.

So we end up with armies of senile 19 year olds?

I want an Iron Man suit so I can fly to work, blasting the speed cameras on the way. Or a gill implant so I can survive underwater. A robot woman to do my bidding. Another Me, I can send him to work whilst I do more interesting stuff. A laser powerful enough for me to write messages on the moon.

Best of all..........

Cheap matter transformers, stick your house hold rubbish in a transformer bin, some gets converted to water, the rest energy to power your house. Excess water back into rivers, clean. If we need any other material we can make that from any other too..... And if I own the patents...........

1> Jet-Man style transportation. Beats being bogged down in 5MPH traffic any day!

2> A powerful PC in my pocket. This sort of stuff is really becoming a reality now with hi-spec mobile phones kitted out with keypads

3> Brain-Control - A sensor attached to the PC which detects your thoughts. Examples:
"Open browser. Go to blitzmax site"
"Launch GTA vice city"
"send email to boss with message, 'what happened to my pay rise?'"

4> Personal MP3 players that are actually PERSONAL!
How many times have you had to sit next to el-moron playing his music at 20000 decibels making you endure nothing more than a horrible "tshh ta ka tshh ta ka" sound?
They should invent earphones which have probes that are connected directly to el-morons eardrums zapping him with 500v per beat

5> Small desktop PC's
I will really be glad to see the back of the big, ugly, boring, noisy, grey PC base units which take up too much space. Bring on the compact goodness of eee Box

6> Splashtop
This is something PC's should have had long ago. Instant access to common apps instead of having to wait more than a minute for the OS to load and become ready for action

Tech 3 might cause a bit of a problem when the girlfriend is around though. Especially when a photo of a hot chick appears on screen during your browsing session and your only thoughts are, "oooohhh show me more .. zoom zoom !"

I'd like to see the world push to a much more paperless society.

We need affordable eBook reader type devices that everybody has. Your reader should just receive the newspaper automagically every morning. When you walk into an airport, flight schedules should automagically be available, in a mall, sales and other info should automagically be available. At a ballpark, instant replays and stats should be available, etc...

This is all easily doable now, there just aren't any standards in place to help it a long.

So we end up with armies of senile 19 year olds?
Aren't most current 19 year olds already senile? They certainly act like it.

Think Alexander Graham Bell already has the market cornered on that one. ;)

I'd like to see cheap cold fusion, it would end the world's engery problems and stop us poluting the planet.

Darkheart

engery problems and stop us poluting the planet.

It's the world spelling problems that concern me more ;-P

No seriously, clean cheap energy would be wonderful. But it's not so much new technologies but a change in the thinking of world leaders that will make the real changes. How about an invention that automatically removes all the food the USA doesn't actually need to live and move it to the third world? The world's hunger problem would be solved!

3> Brain-Control - A sensor attached to the PC which detects your thoughts. Examples:

* during a talk with some young juicy blonde, who has invited you for a job interview, you think: "Oh lady, do I want to see you without clothes"

* email with request sent to her by brain

sorry if i repeat posts as i skimmed all the way to the bottom

seeing as startrek teleporters are just data streams that can be courupted or used as plot devices (going back to puberty for one) ive wondered why they never switched from xx to xy and vise versa
jean louise picard anyone?

ive given people nightmares when they think of a female me knocking around

and the whole clone YOU issue is murky atleast
you would kill its potential to be by having your brain plonked into it as a physical transfer or copy s/he is your twin like it or not and unless it is super speedily grown hours before you 'die' then their is no chance of it becoming its own person, but who wants to live for ever, you only end up paying more taxes

Brilliant!

And a technology that can tell you when those bastard politicians are lying (which will be always.)

I'd like to see a computer that runs a version of MS Windows that doesn't crash and doesn't cost the Earth.
And a Mac OS that can run Windows software without emulation.

3> Brain-Control - A sensor attached to the PC which detects your thoughts.

There's a problem with that. If someone hacks your machine then they could hack your brain.

I'd also like to see a "flip open" communications device similar to the one that was in the original Star Trek that will allow me to communicate around the world......Hold on they don't they already exist?

It could be born brainless just like any politician.

And a technology that can tell you when those bastard politicians are lying (which will be always.)

Don't you mean a technology that can tell you when a politician is telling the truth.
Ok I know now that we are talking in the realms of fantasy here.

And a technology that can tell you when those bastard politicians are lying

It's called Television.

A Commodore 65!! Woohooo! YEAH

how can you tell if a politician is lying?
their lips move

Ginger,
That joke is older than Amiga BlitzBasic 2.1
Your coat is hanging up over there -->

Hee hee. Now that's more like it!

For practical purposes I want a better method for buying the local shopping. Currently, the method is:
1. Fill trolley with grub
2. Empty goods onto conveyor belt at checkout
3. Throw everything into bags (trying to keep up with clerk)
5. Pay up then bugger off home

I want a system where you can bag everything up as you go, walk through a big tunnel which scans your bagged goods, then pay at the end prior to being allowed out the stores

That's called Tesco Online Grocery Shopping & Delivery Service

Works for me :-)

A holodeck, just like in star trek. I doubt I'd ever leave home again :p

Hey what's going on here, where's is point 4!? Wait there it is, must be buggy connection

4. Throw some stuff from the conveyor belt next to yours also in bag

OOhhhh!!!

Seriously I sometimes feel like people are watching for other people to do this. So I make it very clear that I am only grabbing my own stuff, doing it very slowly. ;)

Point 4 is, when you're waiting behind somebody at the till:

4. Wait for 20 minutes while they go through their collection of 5 million '10p off' vouchers in the vain hope that some of them haven't expired.

I'd like to see ATM machines with guns on the top, that shoot people who think its OK, despite the queue behind them stretching half way down the street, to put in five different cash cards one after the other and not actually withdraw any money from a single damn one of them.

..I wan machine(something like hairdryer) capable to compile out whole game with all assets and media, and stuff, based on my thoughts..so I have to imagine, think about every character, how level should look like and so on, and pooff...i got it on burned on holo disc ready for distribution on all platforms including MVP(Mental Visual Player), what doesnt require monitor 'n stuff...you just see game in your minds while relaxing in chair made from compressed air set in proper temperature for your body relaxation..and stuff..:)

o yes..and I wan remote controller, similar like one from movie 'Point and click', except it will not mess with my life time :)

It's called Television.
The media doesn't lie?

I'd like to see space travel as in 'Privateer', 'Freelancer' or the good old 'Elite' become every day reality.

And that Robert Sheckley idea from "Immortality, Inc." that Amon mentioned is also a must.

An Angelina Jolie or Mila Jovovich (or both :) super advanced and programmable "maid" cyborg/robot would be nice.

Dunno if the missus would appreciate it though :/

Space and terraforming technologoy so we can colonize Mars. :)

Walk in Walk Out Body Scanner for diagnosing health problems for the entire population.

Holodeck or at least a simple version of it.

I'd like to see Mark finish BlitzMax 3d Module, that would do

Agreed, a holodeck -would- be cool.

I hear you and I'm with you all the way
Working a patent as we speak

ATM-209:
"PLEASE WITHDRAW SOME CASH. YOU HAVE 20 SECONDS TO COMPLY!"

Artificial Intelligence
Holodeck
Space Stations (not small dinky ones im talking BIG stations)
Colony domes (on other planets)

Me thinks you've been working on Elite multiplayer too long.

I would like to see the implementation of a "DoWhatIMean" command in Blitz3D. :-)

Nah saw a documentary saying the sun could die in a few million years, with the way we are going atm we will still be arguing over fuel prices.

I think I would settle for the real thing but not as a maid ;)

I would also like to see auto assembling flat-pack furniture. Just open the box push a button and bobs your uncle is up ready to use.

I'd settle for flatpack instructions that don't look like they've been written by a sadistic giraffe with a hangover.

I usually get the flat-pack with English instructions written in Japanese.

Two things...

Firstly, it's fairly common knowledge that we humans use very little of our brains, and we can conclude that people of the past were a bit more intelligent because they used more of their brains, and we as a species have degraded over time. However, an excellent invention would be one that would allow use to utilize our entire brain at maximum efficiency. Just imagine - you'd never forget where you put those car keys, and you'd be able to outthink a supercomputer with ease.

Secondly, a device which scans the molecular contents of an object in a scanner of sorts, and the a second machine will take common elements from the air and convert them to the needed substances, and then assemble the original object. No more world hunger, you'd be able to replicate your arm for medical purposes... many things.

Its a myth.

Yep! It's been proven that even the slightest damage to any part of the brain creates problems for the person. Doesn't matter where the damage is or how slight it is.

Hmm.. I stand corrected, then.

A.I. would be my one wish. Everything else follows from there, after subsequent A.I.'s progress in their ability to think in ever more abstract ways (i.e., posess more intelligence).

Ultimate outcome that all possible technologies are developed and we can all pursue lives of leisure due to the lack of need for commerce, elimitation of conflict over resources and the general lack of need for any individual to spend time attaining anything they need in order to live.

I think I would settle for the real thing but not as a maid ;)
well i did put maid in quotes :D

Also,
a machine that can make anything i like out of energy (like the replicator)

one of these would be nice too:
