Music for your games - Imphenzia Soundtrack
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Music for your games - Imphenzia Soundtrack
I've launched a new section of my site today where you can obtain music for your Blitz-creations if you find the music suitable.
You'll find already available non-exclusive tracks (fully downloadable mp3-files). There is also a section if you are interested in exclusive tracks for your game creations.
The site URL is:
http://soundtrack.imphenzia.comFinally, you can also download and use the 'Imphenzia Audio System' for BlitzBasic that extends the functionality of Blitz by simple commands such as pause / crossfade / channel limitation etc of music and sound effetcs.
Hope you find use of the content :)
That's quite a list! I can't listen now, since I'm at work..
Thanks!
Cool.
incidentally, you missed out the letter C from exclusive on two of the links on that page.
Interesting set of tunes there. They all have a similar style to them (regardless of genre), but I like it.
I have to say though, since i've followed a few composer sites, that your prices for commercial use is the highest i've seen, especially without the royalty free allowance. Not a negative or positive note, just feedback.
I bought some of your music before, it's great!
Thanks a lot for your feedback so far.
@Perturbatio: Thanks, will fix spelling asap :)
@Retimer: Good point, the material available at the moment is based on my 'Imphenzia'-material but I plan to make a much wider spread of styles for this soundtrack section to cover more moods, genres and types of games. Also a good point with pricing - but what do you mean about 'royalty free allowance'? (I base my question on that I won't be asking for royalties after a game has been released, it's a one off cost for commercial projects. And free games/projects can use the non-exclusive stuff at no cost at all). Do you have any references to other composer sites to make sure I don't get out of line? =)
@Grey Alien: Thanks mate =)
There are no standard pricing tags for project-composition. If your client is wealthy you may try to ask a bit more, if you client lives on the street your price tag goes down. If you're good, the price goes up, if you're bad then the tag goes down. If the project is easy (few instruments, ambient, simple melody/arrangement, standard beats) the price could go down (or at least your client will insist on such), if the project requires a full-scale 1-hour orchestration for over 30 instruments and traditional counterpoint, the price goes up. If there is a royalty structure, the production-fee may go down, if there's no royalty structure, the production fee goes up. If what you do is comparable to 1838243 other composers the price goes down, if there's just you and no alternative, the price goes up.
It's like selling cows on the cattle market: there's the farmer, there's the buyer, they negotiate about the price and shake hands. If they could make up a price according to the book then the farmer wouldn't need to go through all the trouble to bring his cattle to the market.. :P
$20 per minute is expensive - especially as I have to put a URL to promote your website in the game as well. Even if it was free, I wouldn't do that. It doesn't look professional. I have no control over what appears on your site and I might not necessarily want to be associated with it later if you decide to turn it into a swear-filled blog (for instance).
Regarding the site - you've spelt "Length" wrong (Full lenght track listing). You should also give a description of each track so that visitors have some clue as to whether you've got what they're looking for.
Also, your calculator thing doesn't work. However many 'seconds' I type in, it takes me to paypal and asked me to pay nothing.
Biggest issue I had with the site was that there were so many (Google-)ads that I actually had to double-check to make up what's an ad and what's not. Ads in a far-out corner are ok, but the website is actually surrounded by ads, at places where other websites have website functionality! :P
Been taking new feedback into consideration - thanks again, alot so far =) You have very valid input and it means a lot to me to receive it in true blitz-forum manner.
This is what I've changed:
Non-exclusive music
Cost: First track-minute is $10 and then a heavy discount of up to 80% off for longer duration. E.g. 2 minutes = 10% off, 3 minutes = 20% off, 5 minutes = 30% off, 10 minutes = 50% off etc.). Also got rid of the calculator and replaced it with a simple dropdown.
Terms: URL is not needed, only the mentioning (e.g. Music by Imphenzia Soundtrack) - commonly artists are credited within games and in filmcredits etc so I can't see that being a problem.
Exclusive music
Cost: Startup cost for an exclusive track-minute is $100 and then price is totally flexible due to the needs, e.g. simple ambient tracks will be cheaper than complex orchestral tracks and so forth.
@CS_TBL, the ads are my backup plan if nobody ever licenses any tracks :) I will tidy depending on success.
I will also do genredescription for non-exclusive music as suggested along with new loopable tracks.
Your comments are hugely appreciated so please do keep them coming.
Btw, another advice: I'd advertise with a certain style and stick to it, in your case it would be dance/trance/electro (or whatever global term you think fits the bill for these styles). When you add things like 'movies / films' (whatever the diff may be) it'll appear as yet another "oh, someone jumping onto the bandwagon of production music" of which there are a million already. Besides, I wouldn't bet on the film industry anyway .. ;P So, focus on 'electro music for games' and you may do better than by going the 'generic for all' route. It's called 'focus', and there are plenty o' examples where industries did worse when they were expanding their thingies. Philips for instance had initially this drive of producing anything that's electric. Much later they scrapped quite a few sections of their company and started focusing on a few core activities, after which they were doing much better.
$20 per minute is not expensive for composing it's totally cheap.
Hello again,
Last year I made a short remake (modern remix) of the theme from the original Uridium C64 game. Unfortunately that person has lost interest in completing the remake so if anyone else want to use it - please do :)
