Paint.NET free image and photo editing software.

Hi guys

ive just came across some nice free image and photo editing software called paint.net. im still playing about with it but wonder if any of you guys have seen/used it and what you think of its features?

How did you rate it good/poor? do you still use it? if not why not.

I've never tried it as I don't have .net installed.

Aye, I only started using it for editing icons. Since I don't have/didn't pirate photoshop, Gimp/Paint.NET are my usual image editing solutions (or M$ paint - sometimes simplicity is everything ;).

I have heard good things but it crashed constantly for me a year or so ago.

It's alright, but pretty slow, and the interface is quite clunky. I think it's worth learning to live with the GIMP for now.

It's ok, for free, but doesn't match up to commercial software out there.

I've used it occasionally over the years -- pretty nice for a freebie, but it's much more primitive than the big ones like Paintshop and Photoshop, obviously. Much, MUCH better than MS Paint, obviously.

I've been using it for years at work. I have Photoshop CS2, but I barely know how to use it, so I find the relative simplicity of Paint.NET to be preferable for most tasks (I have simple needs).

It is very light and efficient, provided that you have the .net framework installed, and fairly good in mimicking paintshop's layer system, but it is also very limited in font handling. Overall the ease of use is very good. Looks like an excellent infrastructure to build on for future releases (it would easily eat gimp), but at the moment is still barebones.

At my old job, I had Paint.NET and The GIMP installed on Vista SP1, but I've mostly used The GIMP because I found it had more useful features, was faster and simply better suited for most standard jobs.

The Mono guys use Paint.NET to test their compatibility with the .NET framework; so it has its uses. ;-)

seems quite good for a free paint app, yes much better than ms paint :)

I've used it off and on whenever i can't get a copy of Paint Shop Pro installed on the PC i'm using. Yes its definately much better than MS Paint though. A bit clunky but quite usable once you get use to the interface...
