Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Open Game Project Nears Completion

The Apricot Open Game Project undertaken by the Blender Foundation is nearing completion with the finished DVD hoping to ship end of September. All parts of the game (models, animations, music, environments etc) will be released under a Creative Commons Licence to be used in any project you wish.

Check out the video walkthrough at the link below.

This video is a walkthrough of the completed levels running within Blender using Blender's built-in Game Engine.

And this has to do with BlitzResearch?

interesting.. Can you actually sell a blender made game?

@indie
Its about games computers and technology, so its well within the reules

Personally, I don't think you could sell a Blender made game. The DVD will contain much more than the prototype game and will be released under CC so can also be legally downloaded for free.

The Blender Game Engine is being used as an in-tool method for prototyping your level with immediate feedback and zero coding with a view to exporting to your Game Engine of choice. Kinda like Mark's recent plan for an all in one Game Making type thing.

Originaly the project was to use the open source Crystal Space engine but it proved to be unsatisfactory so focus shifted to prototyping a game within Blender and the development of Blender's tools to aid this (GLSL shaders, realtime shadows, new logic processing, snapping features etc).

As I said, all the content released will be free to use by anyone in whatever way they want. Should be useful to artisitcally challenged programmer types.

It is good to have an increasing library of free (CC or similar) license media to use in further games. I'm pretty certain that you can create models with Blender and then use them in your commercial game. Of course, this game project was designed to be free from the start.
