Anyone running XP SP2 on wireless. I need a DLL

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyone running XP SP2 on wireless. I need a DLL

My ad just updated XP to SP3 and his DLink adapter now fails to work. I can't get an updated driver from DLink because the driver link crashes. Another solution I googled said I needed this dll:

wlanapi.dll (from Windows\System I think)

from an XP SP2 PC. Well I have that PC but I can't find the dll in Windows (or anywhere else), I did a find. I think that's because I'm not using any wireless stuff on XP.

So if anyone is running wireless, do you have this dll and can you please email it to me? Many thanks!

Is it a DWL-G122 USB wireless adapter?

I had problems with the latest DLink drivers - the ones I got on the CD with the wireless adapter seemed to be the most reliable.

If you have a driver CD:

1. Uninstall the D-Link wireless adapter and remove the drivers
2. Reboot
3. Insert the D-Link driver CD and go into device manager
4. Right click Network Adapters>>802.11b/g WLAN (or whatever it says)
5. Manually install the driver from the CD

Doing it this way you don't end up with a stupid yellow "D" in the system tray, either.

I have multiple XP machines here an dnone of them have that DLL, sorry.

Are you sure the update didn't just turn on the Windows Firewall and he is just being blocked from any network access by it?

No it's a card not a USB one. The problem is the old drivers don't work with SP3 due to MS updating the dll I mentioned. Thanks anyway. Good tip about not getting the D.

I've found an MS thread where I downloaded the whole API do get the dll but it won't work without some "core XML" service, gah. I found the dll on a dll site but I don't know if it's the right one, so I still need someone with SP2 and that dll to email it to me :-)

You can download the core XML stuff here:

Yeah. Pretty much all D-link drivers died with SP3. There are are drivers somewhere that'll fix 'em, or you could take a look at: <windir>\$NtServicePackUninstall$\ which should have the old file.

Edit: i missed the SP3 part. I was going to suggest a rollback but there is no point if SP3 has gone in.

Just had a look on the D-link site and there are fixes available for anybody using D-link hardware with XP SP3.

[edit]...except a lot of the links are dead. That's really useful. :/

xlsior: I managed to find the temp location it extracted to while the error message was showing and grab the file that way. I hope it's the correct version, I'll give it to my dad on DISK because I can't email it of course (because he has no Internet now), and try it out.

FlameDuck, good idea about the service pack uninstall, I've never used those.

gfK, yeah exactly the exact link I needed was DEAD!

Just wanted to suggest this site if you are still having trouble.

Jason.

Grey - try again. I sent them feedback saying half the links didn't work two days ago, and now magically they do. :)

QuickSilva: thx, that's where I got an older version of the dll, but not sure if it's the right one until I test it on my dad's PC.

GfK: Thanks for that.
