Documentary on chip music

Interesting although the C64 and Amiga were the ultimate in chip tunes. Well I say that but I've heard some great PC chip tunes too.

Great! *lol* Although i dunno, i'm more into jumping on dunno Pearl Jam, Patti Smith and such concerts instead. Chip music is more happening inside me, emotionally, looks kind of strange on the first view... :O)

You know what it is, those loud cheesy square/noise beats, and then those DJs fisting up into the air and head-banging (while doing "something" with their gameboys, I dunno what), and the crowd fisting up into the air, half-naked, dancing like a madman.. I'm just not buying it.. :P It's all geeky^2 ..

Yeah, i bet he's sweeting a lot if he really gets moody. But the more often you watch this the more i can imagine this somehow working out. Were's the booze?!

I find it humorous that the 20-something year old guys that say the chiptune sound is from their generation (Gameboy). Grey is right- chiptunes came from the early 80's on the C64 and Atari 8-bit computers. Those of us in our 30s were jamming out to Rob Hubbard tunes while these dipshits were still in diapers.

Who cares...

I find it more important that they like chip music and there were also audio chips before the C64 arrived. By the way i didn't know that the Gameboy suffers the same problems like the C64 as it was said that the first generation sounded the best, reminds me of the audio quality of the different SID versions.

Unless by booze, you mean Absinthe, I think you're going to need something a little stronger than that to get dressed out as a tetris block. Hopefully.

Still for a supposed documentary to suggest that chip music originated on the gameboy seems (at best) uninformed. It was the SID chip that made it all possible. Which predates the Gameboy music scene (which started in what, '95) by a good 13 years. So yeah.

Not nearly as advanced, not even close. Hell even the sound chip used in the GameBoy, which was released 8 years later, isn't as advanced.

What the hell are they doing with their gameboys when live anyway? Maybe just bringing out and in a few tracks to give the feel of live mixing? All the tunes are predefined via the tracker cartridge thing I assume.

I think they're just showing off. Act/playback. 'Conducting' a pre-recorded piece. Or just being like James Last, who also just dances around a bit and smiles towards the audience in front of his orchestra.

*lol* You never know. People living in the second half of the 30s are good for quite some surprises. I could imagine you showing up in a Hungry Horace costume... ;O)


Hmmm the older you get the more you notice that hypes (also those which never make it up big) are often based on some bad information and they want to make it sound like it's something new or not this old. Depending on your mood this can be annoying but in this case i'm just happy that such tunes still exist and some of the melodies they played were really good. I would have bet that something like this is a doing fine in countries like Japan. If it would be near my town i would go there just out of curiosity. Some of them are wearing nice T-Shirts.

By the way are those PSP Trackers good?
