Companies with great internet service

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Companies with great internet service

I think companies who take care to offer such a good service need a fair mention so I hereby nominate the following:

COMPANY
www.scan.co.uk

WHY GREAT?
I ordered a black eeePC 901 20GB Linux model last night. During the order process I was given a choice as to which day I wish the item to come (within reason).
In the morning I got a shipping confirmation email, 3 status update emails, and a TXT message saying my new toy is with CityLink ready for delivery

COMPANY
www.amazon.co.uk

WHY GREAT?
Similar to scan. They send emails to confirm the order with a followup email informing you when said order is shipped as well as when you should recieve it

What (internet-based) companies can you recommend?

I'd like to throw in a vote against amazon.co.uk. Last time I ordered something they decided to ship it from New Zealand which meant I ended up paying import taxes on 2 CDs. For some reason this tax was much higher than the cost of said 2 CDs.

Now I buy from play.com, why? Because they ship from inside the EU every time.

No no no no no!

NEVER judge a company on how quickly they ship or how well they keep you updated on delivery! Any company can handle this part -- it's completely trivial.

The real test comes when you have to return something faulty -- that's when you learn who's worth dealing with and who's not.

(Bitter experience.)

Plus one for play.com. They often ship before the release date so that things arrive on the release date (assuming you've ordered that early, of course) and they've never failed to deliver within three or four days at the outside. Pretty sure they also do the emails on shipping thing too, but I never read those.

I always use http://www.cclonline.com for PC bits.

Not only are they the cheapest, they also employ people who actually *know* about PCs. They have a 12 month return to base warranty on everything, which I've only had to use once due to a PSU going faulty after 8 months which I took back, and they just lobbed it into a nearby bin and gave me a new one.

They do sell online mainly, but they also have a shop on the front of their massive warehouse and its close enough for me to call in and pick stuff up.

ooh, thanks for the tip, gfk. My mum's thinking about getting an eeePC so I'll tell her to go there.

I disagree that the CCL staff are knowledgeable, occasionaly some of them are but with many of them it's like watching the blind leading the blind, very few of them really know what they are talking about. They know a little more than most of the punters that is all.

In your opinion, of course.
