Sprites for commercial use

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Sprites for commercial use

Hi all,

I am looking for web sites they are selling high quality sprites for commercial use.
Let's say something equivalent to Turbo Squid but for 2D.
Do you have something in mind?

I searched hi and low for quality sprites but it seems there is just no place that sells any quality packs. The packs I did find were such low quality (and I mean real basic crappy stuff) that it wasn't even worth the £5-10 they were charging for them.

I haven't done a recent search to see if there are any others but if you really need sprites that are catered to your game the only other option is to pay an artist to do them.

It won't be cheap though as quality sprites take more work to do than 3d models.

Hope you find something. :)

What sort of look are you after Moraldi? Retro or a more modern 3D rendered look?

Jason.

2D Pixel Art just takes too long, and the artists (perhaps rightfully so) know they can make more money on a projet by project basis. So if you want commercial quality 2D sprites, you're simply going to have to negotiate with a graphics artist. I was quoted around 2k for some pacman spites a couple of years ago. Sometimes you get lucky and find an artist who has some unsold sprites they'll sell for fairly cheap, but that's rare.

2K for PACMAN SPRITES?

I got a whole mess of high res aliens rendered in 3D and a ship, and powerups, and particle effects for $1500.

Get SpriteForge and render your 3d models as sprites in all angles and as animated image sheets.

Now I know hiring a graphics artist is out of the picture for me.

I'm in the same boat right now for project templates of my engine. I'm just using reiners and crappy custom work right now as placeholders.

There are plenty of good sprite artists out there, you just need to find and steal them from the freebie/newbie gamemaker & alike projects.

Frequently i'll just purchase 3d model packs and set up my own renders and animations of the models into 2d sprite/tile sheets, just as Mortiis suggested, although it doesn't look half as good as well done sprite work, and usually just destroys the style.

I have seen some really impressive 2d sprites here on the blitz forum in the showcase, but I think they keep their secrets to themselves =P

I think I would tell him/her where my foot is going to go if I ever ran into them in person.

I did the sprite work for Grey Aliens Easter Bonus game. If anyone is interested in some old style pixel art for their game at a reasonable price then just email me and I will give you a quote.

Jason.

Thank you guys.
You are telling me that for an indie game maker the cost of media for a 3D game could be lower than a 2D game?!? This is impressive!

I think a 'Christmas game' needs a retro style.
@QuickSilva: Please check your e-mail. Edit: What is your e-mail?

Yeah that would be a good solution but I can get the same result with my favorite 3D animation application. It has the ability to render every frame in a graphic file such as .png, jpg. etc.
