MD2 - run/shoot at the same time

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/MD2 - run/shoot at the same time

Hi,

I don't know much about the MD2 format.. but looking at an example there is an attack anim, and a run anim, amonst other things.

But how does it deal with running and attacking at the same time? Some clever blending to keep the legs running but animation the upper torso?

It has been a while since playing Quake but I'm sure you could see other characters in DM running and shooting (and aiming) at the same time... it may be some functionality available to Quake but not to the MD2 commands in B3D.

Cheers!
LW.

You use two MD2s. One for torso and one for legs.

Ah, ok.

I was using some models from polycount as a test, and they came down as a single model for the player, I guess I can use an md2 editor to split them out.

Also I noticed seperate .md2 files for weapons, but not sure you get access to glue md2s together in B3D, hmm!

Cheers,
LW.

I could've sworn that I saw a demo of a little MD2 man doing his running animation while you could tilt his torso with the mouse -- please tell me I did not imagine this. :D

Just parent the mesh to weapon model. MD2 weapons have their own animation.

Hi,

I tried that with the Messiah model, but no joy, the weapon just sits there while the player animates. May just be the way that particular md2 is set up, the size of the weapon .md2 hints there is no anim data there for that example at least.

(For some reason I found it hard to find a free animated soldier that just runs while holding the gun facing forward ;-) that's all I really want, and I figured low poly/free basic MD2 would help get me there.)

(edit: ah, too much wine. The weapon does have anim, sorry. But I can't get it to sync with the run, yet)

(edit: the md2 can be found here btw, http://polycount.com/models/quake2/messiah/, but you will need a file-jobby login)

(edit: going to call it a night. Way too much wine. I got the weapon animating along with the model, cheers guys and gals. Always happens.. I can't get it working so I post.. then when I post, it works. Hey-ho !.. still they arn't split so the torso aims straight while the legs run, that one is still not figured out...!)

Cheers,
LW.
