Xors3D. First demo
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Xors3D. First demo
Hi ppl! Latest news from Rubux Team:
Here is the first attempt to make something serious using Xors3d.
Mostly all effects are created using shaders.
The grass: instancing, random movement of each unit, perpixel lighting.
The water: reflections and refractions.
Buildings: normal mapping, specular, diffuse, lightmap.
Boxes which are threw after 'space' pressing: burning.
The swing: soft rope which updates via shader using data recieved from PhysX.
PostProcess Effects (press 0-9 to activate).
Ground: blending to materials using vertices with alpha. Lightmap's also present.
Physics: the swing, player movement, collisions, etc.
Important! This demo uses approximately 150MB of VideoRam. So if you've got less VRam than the demo needs select 'Medium' texture quality. Otherwise you'll see FPS fall. 'Glowworms' is a heavy effect. So if your FPS is low, turn them off.

Seems to be quite demanding on hardware, as it goes to 1 FPS on my laptop with all effects disabled. I can run Leadwerks demos even with postshaders and water at 30 FPS on the same machine.
hehe, he uses joomla < 1.5
Error on the demo app:
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_36.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I ran dxdiag and dx7,8, and 9 are all working fine.....

Same here at first, but works fine after installing latest DirectX.
Nice effects! And seeing high FPS, too.
What did you use to compile the exe MikhailV?

You want to get that machine checked out. I'm getting framerates of about 10 times faster than the Leadwerks demo, with everything max'ed.

Nevertheless, your DirectX is not up to date. That's definitely a DX9 file you're missing.
Very nice stuff. I get frame rates of around 350 on a Geforce 8600GTS, which is pretty comparable to the sort of speeds I get with my own TV3D-based engine. Nice to see the grass being affected by point lights too, that's something you don't always get. Good stuff.
After downloading, I see that it is B3D.
Working really fine here. Framerate about 50-60 with all the meshes inside the viewport. 200-250 when looking at a building only. All effects run smoothly and they even make it run faster! I mean when I select a post process effect I get better fps.
Now, I added this engine to my "must buy" list.
My System: Core2Duo 4400 @ 2.0ghz / 2048mb 667mhz Kingston / 8500GT 256mb
It needed the d3dx9_36.dll file, but otherwise, everything maxed ran like 270 fps on my system! Impressive speeds! Can't wait to use this engine on BlitzMax :)
@Gabriel: I have to try it on my laptop with all effects enabled, as people say it runs faster then.
Meanwhile I tried it on my 8800 GTS, and there it runs with 350 FPS.
The video modes selection seems to be hardcoded, but it should detect the video modes from the monitor (or even better: let the user specify a custom resolution in windowed mode, and use desktop resolution in fullscreen (via GetSystemMetrics(0) and (1)). Now I'm not able to run it with 1680x1050 in fullscreen mode, or 800x450 or 1024x576 in windowed mode (16:9 movie theatre format).
I noticed some warping when moving forwards though, and the shadows don't work correctly. Behind the house is a shadow on the ground, but the house wall is not shadowed as it should.
Wow this looks great, can't wait for the engine to be released!!!. Extremely impressive :)
I just noticed there is no normal mapping effect on the building meshes.
are boned animations played on GPU? cause b3d sucks at b3d animations (if many on screen). i like dx9 engine for b3d, but my bottleneck is animation. could you give us an example with animated b3d models?
This really does seem to update Blitz3D command set to DX9! A stunning achievement, well done!
I'm impressed. It runs on my laptops integrated Intel gfx card. Ok, it looks a mess on it and runs at < 1 FPS, but at least it runs, which is more than I can say for many newer engines! I'll try again later on a better machine.
Wierdly it crashes if I put the settings at the lowest/off for everything (shader I think).
If there's BlitzMax and cross-platform version, I'll buy, otherwise, I'm not going to put money in anyway.

BlitzMax support - YES
cross platform - NO (it's based on direct X 9)
I'd better save the budget for Max3D anyway tho... and to be honest, the demo doesn't look any special, especially there're so many engines floating around.
First the Beatles, now XoRs3D Yoko?
Haven't you done enough?
Runs great on my ATI x800pro. Minimum of 100 fps most of the time.
Do you guys have a release date?

Did I miss something? Is there a release date scheduled for this mysterious "Max3D" thing?
Weird... my laptop can play Half Life 2 Episode 2 at good framerates, and Doom 3 runs really smoothly.
This demo, however, really struggles, even when I'm just looking at the sky.
It seems to start of fast and smooth, but then within 2 seconds the framerate drops to 2-3 fps, and then gets steadily worse.
When it takes 3 or 4 seconds for a frame to display, I quit.
It only takes around 15 seconds to get that bad.
It's like there's a memory leak or something.
I'm sure the problem lies with my laptop, but as I said, HL2:ep2 and Doom3 run really well on it.
The fps drop even happens with the following demo settings:
resolution: 640x480
shader quality: none
texture filtering: point
texure quality: medium
grass quality: none
windowed: no
vsync: off
lightmap: off
lights: off
If you want MikhailV to investigate, you should put your specs here...
The demo went really smooth: from 310 ~ FPS down to 250 ~ FPS with post processing on a Athlon x2 5200+ with a GeForce 9800gtx.
A great aspect of this engine is that the command set reflects Blitz3D to the point that a conversion almost just requires renaming of the functions.
Yes I should have done that.
HP Pavilion zd8000
Pentium 4 @ 3.4Ghz
2GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon x600 256MB
[EDIT] I've just tried it again.
And I must apologise.
I have NO IDEA why, but the demo now works just fine for me!
it runs between 50 and 60 fps and looks excellent.
Sorry for any confusion.
There must have been something else running on my laptop that was sucking up the vram.
Works fine on Fujitsu Amilo Pi2512 (DualCore/X3100) with +/- 40 fps (XPpro)

Hi guys! Actually I'm not involved in development of Xors3d, I only posted the message about their demo. So you'd better ask your questions on their forum at
