The term supercomputer means a computer which is faster than most normal computers.
So you could say we already have supercomputers on our desks. EINIAC was a supercomputer. And our computers are millions of times faster than it was.
On the other hand, you could say it's impossible to have a supercomputer on every desk... because the minute you have a supercomputer on everyone's desk, the supercomputer becomes commonplace, and ceases to be a supercomputer.

There will always be a more "super" computer than our desktops in some freon cooled vault somewhere. You can bet your butt that if you have a supercomputer on your desk, then "joes biotech & oil corporation" up the road will be swinging a much bigger and infinetly more powerful one.

I thought Supercomputers have to do at least 1 trillion FLOPS to qualify?
No no no! You've got it all wrong, supercomputers are the consumers next home PC. By the time we all get supercomputers they wont really be 'super' anymore (I don't hear any complaining over that ;).

Same track my friend :) Yeah, I remember in the 90s everyone saying that now we had supercomputers on our desks. That hype doesn't really work anymore.
I don't think this will be mainstream because few people run applications that require loads of parallel processing. Email and Word run just fine on a 500 mhz system.

Lotus Notes 8 C++ runs just fine on any PC, don't use the Java version, it sucks.

Calculate a precise estimation by when Max3D is out ... thought I guess you need multiple Teslas for this purpose ...
