Yep, just got me 8 gigs of class 6 micro SDHC for 22 quid (P&P included) Technology is galluping forwards at a pace. I can recall buying 8Mbytes (a little less than * gigs) of memory for my Amiga1200 for triple the price 14 years or so ago. Oh, and the memory wasn't the size of your fingernail.

My 250GB Samsung hard drive was 1/3 of that.
A couple of years from now, you'll be able to get a Blu Ray burner for £20 or so. Its how it works.

I think my Amiga 80Mb drive was £100s. It rocked though.
I had to smile when a collegue from work just back from China was bragging how he picked up a .. wait for it .. Sony-branded 64GB USB Stick for £5!
Windows confirmed the volume size was 64GB but upon trying to save masses of data everything got corrupted or simply disappeared
It turns out that the stick was hacked to report 64GB but only had something like 128MB storage. Hee hee

Its awesome now, but it isn't when you've bought 3 (1 gig) sd cards back when they were $60.
Was there an 'official' Amiga hard drive?
My hard drive was a 3.5" one. Had to take the shielding out of my Amiga to make room for it. I did try to doctor the shielding by cutting away pieces to make room for the drive, but by the time I'd finished it looked like Edward Scissorhands had tripped over it. So I binned it. :)

thing is with SD cards you can only physically go so far (untill they make smaller chips that is)
for my H4 recorder i still use 512mb SD cards even though it can accept SDHC cards and i have a few 2GB cards, i do this so i know my soundscapes will fit onto an audio CD
thing is the price point between a 512mb card and a 2gb card isnt that big, so in a way id be paying more per mb on the 512 but thankfully i got em both 'free' with hardware
but my 8mpix camera came with a 32mb SD ffs

Well if we're talking cost/size... I bought 512k (yes folks thats Kilobytes not megabytes, not gigabytes!) for my atari ST for (if memory serves) £120... And I got 8 chips that I had to solder onto the motherboard!

Yeah, the original (only?) official Commodore Amiga hard disk drive was the A590, piccies of which are up the top of this page. By all accounts it was a bit dodgy though...

@Gfk, yeah I remember trying to doctor the shielding in my 1200, gave up and threw mine away as well.

wow that's really cheap...I remember when 128MB of RAM cost over 100$...now, coming in August sales, you'll probably be able to get a gigabyte for 5$ :D

I paid ~$200 or so for a 40 MB HD for my Amiga 2000... Later another ~$200 for a 2 MB RAM expansion for my Amiga 1200...
(And now you can buy a 500 GB drive for less than $79.95 on Newegg. Gotta love miniaturization.)
my Miggy 1200 has a gargantuan 350MBytes of Hard Drive fitted to it.... if I remember right. Somewhat paltry compared to my 40Gigs on my primary drive & 160Gigs on my slave.....

£120 got me an 80MB 2.5" drive for my A1200. Progressed to a 700MB 3.5" Quantum, which promptly died. I then got a 1.2GB drive. Don't know what happened to it. Not seen my Amiga for years. Probably in a loft somewhere.
I paid about £70 for a 16MB SIMM for my A1200, to plug into my blazing fast 50MHz 68030 processor board. It then was a dream machine :) Never ran out of memory, no matter what I was doing (which was mainly BBS'ing, coding and then internetting).
I now have a machine many hundreds of times faster, capable of emulating my old A1200 faster than it could ever have performed natively, yet I have to wait minutes for it to thrash the HD whenever I finish watching a DVD (streamed across my network) or wake it from hibernation.
