I am using a wireless connection from my house to someone else's wireless internet connection.Believe it or not im getting 54Mbits instead of the 8Mbits i hade when i signed up to my ISP .Am i breaking the law by doing this,or should he be more vigilant by learning how to use a computer,and even more a router.

However you try to dress it up, you're stealing somebody else's bandwidth and that's that, and you *can* be prosecuted for it.

Technically you're breaking the law although I think this whole wi-fi hitching thing is a grey area. Wi-fi is bad for you apparently and there is a petition to ban it going on at the moment.
It would be best to ask for permission. Many leave their wireless networks open on purpose, since there's little harm in sharing it. In any case, using up all the 54Mbits of it would be rude. ;)

A few people not so long ago were prosecuted in the UK for doing something like this.
As you don't have his/her permission then yes you are breaking the law.
If I was you I would find out who they are and put a message in the letter box telling them to turn on wireless encryption (or show them how).
And if you keep on "piggybacking" you too could feel the long arm of the law on your shoulder.

? You came on here asking what the law is. GFK told you, but you seem to argue it with him.
There isn't any difference of opionion if you asked if what your doing is illigal.
If you had asked about the morality of the act, then fair enough, but GFK has clearly only been telling you what the law is and answering your question.
