freeaudio or directsound

Ok so we all know freeaudio has a .5 second lag on vista as did driectsound but vista SP1 seems to have fixed the directsound, so I use.

SetAudioDriver "freeaudio"

I'm just wondering is directsound safe for XP and freeaudio safe for Mac? Or is openAL a better choice for both?

I've used OpenAL for Vista, FreeAudio for everything else in the past (ignoring Mac/Linux).

I'm interested to find out if DirectSound is more consistent in Vista, too. Or is FreeAudio fixed as well?

Not checked this lately, but I have a Vista installationdisc with SP1 build in and I got the same 0.5 sec lag in Blitzmax 1.28 at that time. And using directsound solved it for me as well.
