Fairway Solitaire's moment of glory.
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Fairway Solitaire's moment of glory. :0
Yeah someone just sent me a link to that. Thanks for posting. I wonder what size the Penny Arcade audience is? I'll look out for a sales spike this month but to be honest, as sales are pretty high anyway, it may be hard to spot a difference. My moment of glory was receiving the first royalty cheque! :-) (or maybe it was seeing it hit #3 on BFG or #1 on apple.com - they felt pretty good too) hmm, now I'm just showing off ;-p
I reckon I've got a tough challenge to follow that game with my next game...I'd better get on with it instead of forum touring!

Grey:
That's your game? I was wondering whose it was.
As for Penny Arcade... Um... Penny Arcade's audience is HUGE. Like, they have their own EXPO, and they raise over million dollars in hospital charities every year.
I would expect a significant increase in sales.
Btw, I watched the video of your game due to that Penny Arcade appearance. It never looked interesting to me from the screenshots, I just thought it was a solitaire game with golf themed graphics. But it looks pretty creative in reality. I might have to give it a try just to see how the game mechanics work.

sswift: Yeah it's my game (have you got sigs turned off? It's in my sig) but I worked with BFG on it, so really it's "our" game. Cool to hear PAs audience is huge, I'll see what happens to the sales. Yeah you gotta try it out just to see what I made Bmax do, nothing ultra-techy, but I think it looks smooth and works well.

Large enough that they have previously taken down sites like HardOCP and Kotaku when linking to stories. So yeah. haha cool. Let's hope they write a BIGGER article then ;-)
Hope you get more sales man!
Wow, that is brilliant, congrats Grey Alien, Hope this makes you get more sales :)
Very impressive

Thanks!
It got mentioned on GamePro.com a while ago which was unusual for a hardcore game site. http://www.gamepro.com/gamepro/domestic/games/features/157268.shtml

ooh, there's way harder later on, but year Salty Tears is hard.
Penny Arcade, how can such a unfunny comic be so popular?
That is advertising you can't buy....
Really well done (must go try it ;) )

Good god man ... that is totally awesome! Did you design the game?
No it was designed by John Cutter at BFG and then I programmed it. He mostly did the "macro" design, the big things, and I mostly did the "micro" design, all the little polish items - although there was some collaboration on many of the macro/micro design points. He was great to work with. I'm working with him again on my current game although I've had even more design input this time.
OK so it got a boost of 8 in the BFG top 100 since yesterday: http://www.bigfishgames.com/download-games/top-100-game-downloads.html
Another another boost of 6 today. That's a leap of 14 in two days up to 29 in the top 100 (and up to 9 for Mac games). So Penny Arcade must have had a measureable effect, neato!
its now a banner ad there too
It's possible that it was already a banner ad (it's in plenty of other places), or maybe BFG sensed a marketing opportunity after it was mentioned and paid for the ad.
Grey: Which games on your site do you own the IP on?
Xmas Bonus, Easter Bonus, Holiday Bonus and all the Free ones. Wizard of Oz was programmed under contract for Injoy Games, and Fairway Solitaire was a contract job for BFG as is my current game. Of course I put a lot of my own ideas/details into those contract games but I don't own the IP. I own the IP for my framework though :-) Hey I just noticed your Vista Christmas site. Interesting...
Hi Grey - I wasn't sure which IP's you owned. Very impressed with the GA line. :) Thanks for the comments about the xmas site. ;)
i would say 'bit early for christmas' but as we know clintons get stocked up bout now dont they ;)
and ive just recorded 95% of my traditional xmas tale for this years DiH and friends anti xmas CD (it was interupted by drunk house 'mate')
and this post has sod all to do with the topic at hand ;)

Thanks MGE. Probably some other people would have made more games in the same time period but a) I spend a lot of time polishing them to make them just right and b) I guess I must fart around too much ;-)
