Apple iPhone 3G

I am impressed with the new iPhone 3G

DRM, Apple decides what programs you are *allowed* to use or not! This is the DRM hell in reality. Also, the "half the price" is probably a scam, since iPhones have very high month fees, I remember that it costs 50 euros per month in Germany for example..

My friends got one it looks and feels really nice to use. Browsing webpages is awesome on it! Not so impressed at the fact you have to have itunes though, i was hoping it would be more like a HDD you could plug in/out like my other stuff (mp3 player, camera, phone etc.)
But he says this is not possible, is this correct?

I think samsung is making a linux based one which mabe more up your alley nawi (and mine for that matter)

It's interesting that folks like John Carmack - who's actually among the people who make money writing software/games for mobile phones - are not bitching about Apple's AppStore, but think that it is a good solution to the deployment problem:

Anyway, I would be more impressed with the iPhone SDK if it allowed me to use a language other than that looking like the contents of a bio-waste-container language Objective-C. And no, an Apple Java-implementation is not an option either.

No one ever mentioned if it can actually be used as a phone i.e. for a simple conversation.

I bet one of these days some manufacturer will definitely forget to include the simple conversation function. They are all sooooo busy cramming more and more (mostly useless) functions into mobile phones, one is bound to forget about the communication. ;-P

I read that the volume levels on the current iFone are relatively low. If you are in a rather noisy area you have little chance of hearing the conversation

I want the iphone for the other features. And I want to make programs for it.

most camera phones are pants and dont have a flash so low light forget about it

you can buy basic digital cameras dead cheap so if it was something you wanted to take there and then its something you could have in your jacket pocket or handbag
built in everything is ok till you find its jack of all trades master of none (well cept for being a mobile phone ;) ) so some people think "ill take me camera phone to the gig instead" and come back with utter tripe
but a £30 camera from argos would do the job far better
