How long until images enter the gallery?

I'm wondering because I submitted 5 640 x 480 jpegs, 2 days ago. (screenshots from the game that I made) None of them are in the gallery.

They take a few days, for they need to be looked at by a moderator first.

They probably won't add all five if they're of the same thing.

Can I submit Png's? I have an image that I would like to submit, but Jpg completely screws up the image.

They only take 2 images max in one submissions btw!

I've posted a couple of shots at the same time but the mods just picked one, probably at random. I see some other recent stuff in the gallery with 3 pictures posted together which look almost the same. Personally, I'm not too fussed but a bit of consistency wouldn't go a miss.

Incidentally KillerX, your picture is currently earning the honour of being the worst rated picture ever posted in the gallery ;)

That was the game over screen. I was actually hoping that they would all be posted in one gallery post, but that was the only way I could post multiple images. A few of the images screwed up though, when converted to jpeg. I didn't realise I submitted that one. I thought I submitted one with the ground completely covered in blood instead. How about you show the other three.

it's a shame the gallery doesn't have multiple pictures per entry. We could do with an upgraded gallery to allow for extra features

Look at this one before saying that my post is the worst. This one is only the bottom one because of this thread. Until that game-over screenshot, this was around the fifth-worst screenshot.

I'm wondering, can I submit png's? I have screenshots from a 2d game that I built, but jpeg is larger, and looks much worse.

If BRL had seen fit to post that red screen in the gallery, my mind would be well and truly boggled if anybody had rated it higher than a 1.

Personally, I wouldn't have posted any screenshots of that game at all since it simply isn't all that nice to look at, regardless of how it was achieved.

Same when people post screenshots of Windows/Mac apps - why?? Its just a screenshot of the OS!

The one you linked to isn't brilliant, but its much better than the one you posted. To say its ranked low because of this thread, is ridiculous. All you've done is make more people aware of it which doesn't effect the average rating at all.

Oh, and just to add another $0.02 - I don't think you've done yourself any favours by piping up to ask about why it takes so long for screenshots to appear. I'd hazard a well educated guess that most people were expecting your screenshots to be something much, much better.

I was hoping that they would post all the screenshots together. And if not, I thought they would choose the best one. also, this one only dropped so low after this thread grew longer.

Actually, I was bored, so I just spent a day making the game.

Nice work for a day... but you could judge the game based on the screenshots. The gameplay is kinda... well, bad ;) Basic screenshots, and basic game. The gallery rating could almost be an accurate rating for the game, unless you were talking about a speed written tech-demo.

I've mentioned this numerous times over the years. Its a gallery, not a showcase, even though many people seem to treat is as one.

You judge paintings in an art gallery on the merits of the picture - you generally don't care which type of brushes/paint/easel the artist used or factor that into your opinion of the exhibit.

You can always post multiple shots in this format

I guess that would work. The only problem is the size restriction.

Well hard time aside, if screenshots aren't the best way to get the flavour of the game, perhaps a gallery of screenshots isn't the best place to put it.


I'd have thought a 320x240 rectangle of pure red was much the same as a 640x480 rectangle of pure red.

Don't take it too badly, KillerX. I just chose what I thought was the best looking of the five -- I can't tell which one you think is the best, or which ones you've uploaded in error!

We'd usually only publish one or two images at a time from the same submission, which is why I think Gfk's advice was pretty sound -- pick the one or two that you think are the best, or we have to.

The Blitz gallery looks pretty good overall because there's such variety from one picture to the next -- if one image doesn't really impress you, you don't have to skip through another half-dozen of much the same to find something you like.

The gallery isn't there to show individual projects in great detail, it's just an overview of many, many projects made with Blitz, as well as a place to easily show off your best stuff.

I thought the 1st or 4th was best, because they showed enemies. Would it be possible for it to be changed to one of them.?

Then in the future only submit those :)

Why don't you start a worklog for the project? Then you can display what images you like :)

I'm actually done working on it. That was just a day of work. I don't plan on any changes.

I vote for 3, the other ones don't show too much.

I can see why BlitzSupport chose the last one. The graphics are far too primitive for the gallery. I don't think any of them would have done much better ratings-wise.

The first one is clearly the most interesting. I mean, it has a story. Somehow, even though Uthefi Widy is dead, he still has the stength to stand before you, gun in hand. Who is the man? Where did he get that hat? How can he stand in the face of such opposition? The drama is... gripping.

Can the gallery-code be changed to allow user to edit himself the content (ie: replacing/deleting/change the comments)? It should relative easier than creating a thread just for this...
