PLAYSTATION 2 Emulator For PS3
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/PLAYSTATION 2 Emulator For PS3
Hiya all,
will it happen?
Because I have quite lots of PS 2 games.
PS2 discs shouldn't even be recognized by the Bluray drive in the PS3.
If you have the original 60GB model PS3, then you already have PS2 emulation - works pretty well too, completed Final Fantasy XII using it.
They removed the emulation from the 40GB models, at least in the UK. Not sure how it is in the rest of the world.
yeah but what I have notice is that PS 2 games look crap on PS 3 which is shocking !!
You can turn smoothing on, which helps a bit (depending on the game), but yeah - going from a PS3 to a PS2 game can be a shock!
The PS3 got a BIOS update quite some time ago which addressed the poor visuals of PS2 titles running under emulation.
Why would the PS3's disc drive not detect PS2 games? Aren't they just DVD discs?
I think(Don't hold me to it.) that blue ray is a tightly packed(the crystals that are +/-) surface, wheras dvds (crystals) are less tightly packed.
*BASED OFF A BOOK I BOUGHT*
Blu-ray drives have no problem with playing DVDs.
Yeah. But another thing is it may not have the hardware to emulate it.
Like, for example, my SNES can't play NES games.
(Yes, I know it is not a good example, but you get the point.)
iirc:
60gb PS3 has a PS2 hardware chip in it which essentially renders 90% of PS2 games out there playable
40gb PS3 has zero compatbility
80gb PS3 has software emulation of the PS2, and appears to work for 75% of the titles out there, albeit crashes/glitches/slowdowns may be present in some titles.
(that I've experienced at any rate since that's the PS3 model I own)
Emulation gets improved slightly every system update as well, so there'll be less problems in the future.
(ala 360's backwards compatibility, although they go ahead and actually make the games look better on that system via driver flags)
hiya Genexi2!!!
@HOTSHOT some of the PS1 games played on PS2 looked "bad" too - same sort of thing ..... example - the graphics on the
PS1 game "X-COM TERROR FROM THE DEEP" were pretty lo res on a PS1. but when you played the disc on a PS2 - the game WOULD WORK but the graphics lost quality and because they were already on a knife edge - boy did they look rough - horrendous would probably be the technical term
a lot of people prefer the version of the PS3 that has PS2 capability as they have shed loads of old games
bluray to me is completely overrated anyway
PS 2 can Smooth the Playstation one games and also faster loading you know.
Why couldnt Sony put that in PS 3 but no sony is more worry that people like us buying Classic PS 1 or 2 games on PS 3 system even thought PS 3 last year line up wasnt good as we had wait for 1 yrs to wait for good PS 3 games line up.
I wish Sony learn thier lesson and make good line up for PS 4 games!!!
40GB is supposed to get a firmware upgrade this fall for backward compatibility through software emulation.
when? When is PS3 40GB model is supposed to get a firmware upgrade this fall for backward compatibility through software emulation.
any more details about ps3 playing ps2 discs, and memory card and ps2 controller and ps3 usb to ps2 memory card converter and ps3 usb to ps2 controller convertor?
I already stated above which PS3 models can use PS2 discs.
[EDIT] Actually, here's a
good chart on the model differentiations on wiki
For memory cards, there's a $15 adapter you can purchase that allows you to hook up your memory cards to the PS3 (via the USB cable that comes with the PS3) to copy over onto its harddrive if you please (it can create virtual PSX/PS2 memory cards on it which you can copy/delete/swap-about and use/assign in PSX/PS2 games) or just leave it connected incase there are some copyrighted material on it that refuses to copy over.
For backwards compatibility with PS2-related controllers, there's no official solution for it, and from what I've read any 3rd-party means of doing so has their own quirks which make them not even worth mentioning imo.
(which sucks for me as the Guitar Hero controllers are the only things keeping me from packing up and storing the PS2 away)
How do PSX games look on the PS3 at any rate? Haven't tried any yet as I'm more keen in just copying them to my PSP and play them on that instead.
(320x240 games just look better on the bright PSP-screen that it would my 19" TV)
when? When is PS3 40GB model is supposed to get a firmware upgrade this fall for backward compatibility through software emulation.
This fall. That's why he said "this fall".
fall = autumn incase anyone didnt know ;)
cos i read that myself and thought "didnt you read it?"

R U 4 PSP M4d h4x0r??
If you can't understand that, don't.
Cp: Playing PSX games on a PSP via emulation is not a new thing. Obviously, you have to hack your PSP and download the emulator, but it works exceptionally well.
I'm considering purchasing a PSP just for the emulation capabilities, after hacking.
yeah. mine is modded to the max. screenshot time!

edit:updated screenshot.
is ps3 usb ps2 controller adapter\convertor on amazon uk website
That's cool, software emulation :o) Not that i have many games i would go back to on the ps2...
For £30 you can buy a PS2 to play PS2 games?

Would be the most painless option indeed, but most people would not want to put 10 consoles in view in their livingroom with a whole bunch of cable going everywhere in sight.
People rather choose one good device and emulate the rest on it if possible. Too bad only the first edition of the PS3 had backwards compatibility.
I just keep with my desktop PC hooked up to my 32" TFT TV, I can Windows games bigscreen and emulate the bit older consoles as well without trouble. I just use a wireless gamepad for the feel in those older games. Only 1 device on which I can do all, play games, watch dvd's and browse etc...
