I know there is an updated demo of BlitzMax to 1.3 I was just wondering when the update for everyone else would be out?
Where is BlitzMax 1.3
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Where is BlitzMax 1.3 I have been thinking the same thing. Thought it was going to be out sometime this week?
From Mark's worklog:
also did some cleaning up of BlitzMax in preparation for a big V1.30 release next week-ish.
Think the key word is "week-ish".
I was hoping too.

One thing I've learned about computers. Things quite often don't get developed on schedule. For that reason Jagex doesn't even say they're working on most updates until they already have them completed and are ready to release it.
Jagex? bad comparison. BRL is not responsible for the majority of "n00bs" out there (runescape, dare I name it).

Lol, I take it you don't like RS. Oh, well, you're not the only one. And, whether it is a bad comparison or not, it is a good policy IMO.
"week-ish" is still a lot shorter then "When it's done"
Maybe I am a bit naive here, but when a company releases a product demo, shouldn't there also be a finished product somewhere?
Anyway, I'll spent the next time with Python, so it doesn't really matter for me right now.

Good/bad policy aside, the problem is, people nag and nag for information until they get some. Mark is the spawn of Satan when he doesn't give information, and the same when he does. You'd moan if he releases it a nano-second later than he said he would. You'd moan if he released it and something was broken. He can't really win, whatever he does.If you're that desperate for the latest version, just get it from the Subversion repository.
I'm gonna start windmilling random people soon. :/

Sounds like what my wife says about me. No matter what I do, its always wrong. :? You need to just download the updated version of your wife from the the subversion respository!

It is.... but maybe Mark is using Valve Time? ;-)
Valve Time = Actual Time
Next week = In 3 months

Maybe, but that's not always how it is. Were you watching Firefox 3 when it came out? They had a demo/preview thing for a while before the real thing came out.

For me, he wins both ways. If he can't get it out, he can't get it out, and I'll have to wait. I can't do anything about it, so why complain? I don't even use BlitzMax, I use Blitz3D. But for the majority of people, you're probably right.

No, sounds like most girls. :P

ROFL, sounds like Soon(TM) in an online game I played once...I forget the name.
Ive used the demo of spore, yet....... I cannot find the game anywhere
demo of spore
It was the demo of the creature editor, not the game. And you can get the full editor now - although with unreleased games, you do sometimes get the demo before the full game.
Ive used the demo of spore, yet....... I cannot find the game anywhere
So the anology is I should use the demo of BlitzMax 1.3 when I paid for the full version which is still at 1.28
You paid for version 1.18 if we're being picky. ;)
The update is a free bonus. :p

Calm down guys. Blitz is not Duke Nukem Forever... ;)
My biggest hope (for the Linux version anyway), is that it can be used on 64-bit versions of Linux...
Mark had already said what 1.30 will contain
I also did some cleaning up of BlitzMax in preparation for a big V1.30 release next week-ish. Nothing major, just sanity checking everything and cleaning up a few issues.
Maybe he's working on some svn-tool to 'automate' the process for updating Bmax - and this will take more time than estimated.
Or maybe he's living on another planet so the 'week time' is relative to the orbital time (ie on Saturn a year is something like 29 Earth-years....:D)

Just tried out the updated demo and the IDE looks much better\cleaner now. One thing that did bug me though is that TImage is still not highlighted. I was hoping this would be fixed in the new version. It`s little things like this that I think should be cleaned up as it ruins that first impression in my opinion to new users.
Jason.

Nothing major
The Mac IDE has changed a bit though... Besides, why should it be a big update if there is nothing major in it ?
On closer inspection things seem to highlight quicker in the IDE and the GUI elements look much nicer. Overall it seems much nicer to use now. Hopefully Mark can look into the TImage problem before the final release. Nothing major just an annoyance, for me anyway. Maybe it doesn`t bother other people.

"Where is my dinner?"
wernt people bemoaning mark due to the demo's ancient release
spouting that its off putting to people new to blitz as its not as good as whatever they had been told, or code written on an upto date version borked thus creating an 'its borked ill go python/whatever' response
so if 1.30 is nothing major then atleast demo users get to try out the up to date beast and not the whenever it was updated demo
blitzmax 1.30 for real might be purely cosmetic ide fixes as stated above not the makegame() weve all been hoping for ;)

I thought Mark said 1.30 would come out right after Chinese Democracy?
how much longer until blitzbasic 1.3 update or higher? A week has past.
Have you checked your account updates page?
No, nothing there :(
Its currently two weeks late...
Its currently two weeks late...
The version that you can get via SVN identifies itself as 1.30, and even its readme file says it's 1.30. I still don't understand why there is no installer package on the account/product updates page.
frag svn I wanted it via a downloadable update from the account pages, surely its easy enough to do.
It's three weeks since Mark wrote "next week-ish". Maybe he should have made it "next month-ish".
I think I know why it's been taking so long.
I think I know why it's been taking so long.
I want the downloadable installer, too. Bootstrapping a BlitzMax installation through SVN is a bit too painful: I'm still to dumb to compile a MaxIDE on OS X when I don't already have MaxIDE installed. bmk does not create a proper .app, and I haven't invested enough time to find out how to do that without MaxIDE.
I also think that when SVN is the new distribution standard, then MaxIDE should have a built-in and pre-configured SVN client.

I agree. I'm not going to buy MaxGUI just so I can compile MaxIDE.
I don't think Winni mentioned MaxGUI. In my opinion MaxGUI is essential and cheap.
I also see MaxGUI as an essential part of the package; it's well worth its money. But wxMax is a tough competition. ;-)
MaxGUI would be an essential part of the package for me if it contained data grids. When it does I'll get it instantly.
Yeah... I'd also love to see Cover Flow support in MaxGUI. ;-)
But the thing is the 'games only' positioning of BlitzMax, so I doubt that a data grid will ever become a part of MaxGUI. But there's still wxMax.

"week-ish" is still a lot shorter then "When it's done"
A lot shorter, a lot more professional, and ....give aids and cause cancer to any hyper dev who uses 'when it's done'. Why release info if you don't even know if it's going to happen, or when? It's cheating and being irresponsible for attention.
Anywaoh, hopefully some useful additions come out of this update, unlike what seemed to be an almost pointless update from the 1.28 release.
still not out :(, surely that its not that hard to pack it up as an update.
The update supposed to 'improve' the IDE etc, I for one would love to see the changes. I would like it via a downloadable update as I can store the updates for later without having to keep SVN'ing the bloody thing then transfering it elsewhere and compiling (unrequired tbh as an update doesnt need this).

I'm sure it'll appear in due course...
I blame my parents for not endowing me with the whining mentality that appears to be so prevalent on these forums.
I wouldn't say essential. It's quite useful for a small range of applications, sure, but that's about as far as it goes. For what it was designed to do - make utils for your games - it does its job.
It is nice to see the community helping to improve it though, few that those may be.
As for Cover Flow, I'm almost tempted to get myself a proper Cocoa book and get some Mac-only modules into the collection. Core Image?
Anyhoo. I'm looking forward to BlitzMax 1.32 :-)

I dont think its whining just when the powers that be say something they should at least stick to it, after all if we cant rely on them how do we know they can deliver on anything they promise.
Indeed - I wondering whether the 3D part could possibly come out at Christmas if this release date cant be met - especially with no real reason why.
I wondering whether the 3D part could possibly come out at Christmas if this release date cant be met - especially with no real reason why.
And if it can't? Then what? No one has paid anything for it. No one is owed anything. If it doesn't come out at Christmas, you won't be able to buy it at Christmas. I don't see the big deal. It's not as though software is a field where release dates are anything better than wildly inaccurate attempted guesses, even if we're talking about Ubisoft and Take 2.
If the failure to meet one release date makes some people unwilling to wait for another, I'm sure BRL will understand if those people go elsewhere. But they won't go elsewhere, will they?
1.30 is out there... somewhere... can you feel it? ;)
can you feel it? ;)
Oh, it somehow reminds me of "Derren Brown - the Heist"
But they won't go elsewhere, will they?
Unfortunately, on the Mac there is little to go too.
anything better than wildly inaccurate attempted guesses
Strange - I've always been able to calculate and stick to release dates...

PureBasic, GLBasic, RealBasic, GameMaker and more.

Its childish and idiotic comments like this, that make me wonder why the hell I bother coming here any more. Perhaps if you knew anybody who had ever experienced either AIDS or cancer, then you might not be so blase about wishing it upon people. You're WAY out of order. Given that even though I could happily live without coming here, I don't especially want to be banned, so I'll leave it there.
PureBasic is incomplete on the Mac - and none of the ones you mentioned do 3D properly.
Strange - I've always been able to calculate and stick to release dates...
I wasn't aware you were so prolific that your stats were going to affect an industry-wide generalisation.
Unfortunately, on the Mac there is little to go too.
Strange. I wonder where all those Mac games keep popping up from then. They must all be written in BlitzMax.
TAToad, this topic is about the BMax update so I don't know where the 3D comes into it.
Indeed - I wondering whether the 3D part could possibly come out at Christmas if this release date cant be met - especially with no real reason why.
Unless there's a reason why. I'm sure Mark won't release it untill he fixes anything he feels needs to be fixed. And personaly I preffer to wait a little bit more than to have a partially working update.
Hopefully its delayed because Mark is testing out the new C struct Interface :)
(a guy can hope, right?)
(a guy can hope, right?)
then you might not be so blase about wishing it upon people.
Or maybe that 'is' why. I'm out of line in sarcasm and I never claimed to be a saint. A general discussion forum isn't the place to take everything so seriously lol.You tend to be the one calling internet arguments directed at individuals when it has nothing to do with you on the forum constantly, and a couple times they were inexcusable (as accusing people of racism, when there was none) so lets not go to happy contradiction land ;-)
If you are offended because you are one of those hyper devs, oops, I apologize for making a joke that might have insulted you, it was not my target.
Anyways, Go-go gadget On-topic!

Its amazing how asking a simple question on the forum results in an argument :(
Surely BlitzMax 1.3 is ready after all the demo version is using it so I wonder why there is no update available yet, thats all im asking?

TAToad, this topic is about the BMax update so I don't know where the 3D comes into it.
Its an assumption from the fact if one set of release dates cant be reached then it follows that the chances that further release dates will also be missed, especially when the supposed release date is near or on public holidays.
As the demo for 1.3 is out, what would happen if you brought BlitzMax now ? Would you get 1.3 or 1.18 ?
Yeah, well that assumption was off-topic.
You would get 1.18 and update to 1.28 which would be good enough for me.

Agree++
This is turning rapidly sour(if not sour already). it needs to be squashed before someone does something very stupid.
Anybody know what is due to be in 1.3?

You would get all the updates that are currently available, most recent is 1.28. I got this from support when i asked a question regarding logging in to synch modules; as i was having problems :
Note that sync mods has been depreciated and will no longer be available in
1.30. 1.30 as well as the lastest MaxGUI module will be released very
shortly.
So i guess its just around the corner,,,
