What is Londonvasion 2008?
"Londonvasion 2008 is the first ever live phpBB conference. We are very excited to present you with this unique opportunity to meet fellow community members, as well as the phpBB team.

"The conference will be held on Sunday July 20th in a hotel across the street from London Heathrow Airport (UK). Doors will open at 9:00 AM and the event is scheduled to end at around 17:00 (5 PM).

"We welcome speakers and presentations on any phpBB related topic; please contact me if you are interested. A full list of planned discussions will be made available prior to the event."

phpBB was first created by James Atkinson (theFinn) in June 2000 as a UBB-like forum solution for his wife. Once released to the public through SourceForge, it gained popularity very quickly, and by December of the same year v1.0.0 was released.

Two additional major releases, 1.2 and 1.4, were made in February and April of 2001. During this time, the development team expanded to include Bart van Bragt (BartVB) and Paul S. Owen (psoTFX).

Work on phpBB 2.0.x began in February of 2001. phpBB2 was built entirely from scratch, and took an entire year to complete. Finally, in April of 2002, phpBB 2.0.0 was made available to the public. The 2.0.x line of phpBB has since risen to become the most successful opensource bulletin board software worldwide.

By the end of 2007 phpBB3 had been released and effectively surpasses all phpBB2 versions

anybody interested??

Well cover me in eggs and flour and bake me for 40 minutes. Look who it is!

Where you been? :)

heeeey Gfk have a look at this >>>> http://www.pbase.com/chiefty/blitz2

incredible to think they're still there heeeey

haha blodrone is the first photo - where did HE get to? don't tell me!! Glastonbury right?

well, since 2003 I have been up to my neck in phpBB2 and loving it

I am ashamed to say I know more about phpBB2 than Blitzbasic now - still I never did know that much about BB

glad to see you are still going hammer and tongs in here Gfk (Glad to see my password STILL WORKS!!!)

Hey, Chief. Long time no see, good to have you back.

You should get your sig fixed, it's just not the same without the Bruce Lee ninja ;)

Blimey. That was a long time ago, huh? :/ Must be, like, 4 years ago.

haha blodrone is the first photo - where did HE get to? don't tell me!! Glastonbury right?
Probably - Glastonbury 2008 is this weekend. Although he still posts here as "Ginger Tea".

glad to see you are still going hammer and tongs in here Gfk (Glad to see my password STILL WORKS!!!)
I'm not quite that "mad for it" any more but a few possibilities are on the table - I'm still plodding along. Eight years with Blitz now.

eight years is quite a record for sure !! nice to read your posts

wow Eikon I have no idea about signatures on here now

oooo it's all coming back to me now

One new remake I saw on the BB list was Commodore 64's DAN DARE and it looks SUPERB!!! gotta be a rival to Bruce Lee I should think

For the record - me and Chiefy had quite a torrid history on Blitzcoder. I think we went out of our way to disagree at every opportunity and had some proper nasty arguments. Then we unexpectedly bumped into each other at a Coder's Workshop meet about four years back and had an interesting and worryingly pleasant chat. :)

Just goes to show that its very easy to misjudge people you've only ever encountered online. Its all to easy to let your perception of them cloud your overall judgement. I thought he was a complete arse at first but in reality he's alrite.

I think a lot of people [here] would do well to remember that when they argue on forums, they're arguing with real people - people who they'd probably get along with just fine in real life. The forums would be a much better place for it.

Hey, it's c h i e f y. :)

I remember you wanting to challenge the world to a game of chess.

I remember the CW get together. I didn't go but remember people talking about Puki and him raiding the sausage roll stand. There was even a picture of him but you could only see the back of his head. If it was him.

Yes, Puki attended CW1, I think.

I think I met up with Chiefy at CW2 - I actually went to 2 of 'em, plus two Blitzcons. I got wrecked. Never did find out whos pint I stole. Teach you to leave your drinks unattended. :D

[edit] Christ, we should do that again! :D

[edit again] Actually, I was that 'trousered' by the time I found an unmanned pint on a table, it could have been a pint of wee for all I knew!

[edit again, again] Are you still into yer bikes?

yehe I loved that chess site Amon, went to the LONDON meet they had as well - really good but as with everything it all takes up time and we just run out of it sooner or later

I agree with GfK's recollections above, quite right - there was also some kind of Blitz meet in London tied in with a retro gaming venue a few years back - George Bray was at that one too (so many legends)

anyway - to get back to the phpBB side of things, IS anybody interested in phpBB? this forum here, this site, what powers it? Blitzcoder was a PERL coded forum and after it closed, the 'duplicate' that Krylar made (CCN) but with a way different membership, GOT HACKED unfortuntaely (maybe it was vulnerable) so it is no longer PERL (has been made to look similar though to please the members)

anyway if anybody is interested in phpBB, there is a wicked lo tech topic here >> http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=878785 which shows a lot of the phpBB members in "fun mood" :LOL

Yo CHIEFY

How you getting on?

I was in CW 2 event and I thought it was good.
There no picture of me in there but there is picture of my mates in there!

Hello Chiefy, really nice to se you reemerge here :o)
Memories coming back :D

SALUTE BRUCE LEE PROGRAMMER Mark Rosten check out the dude >> http://www.planetflibble.com/blitz/ coded in original BB

@HOTSHOT hiya matie!! I don't think I took ANY of those photos at all, they were all emailed to me or I nicked em (with permission at the time) where was the CW 2 event?

@WEDOE I remember you made your own version of blitzbasiccom is it still going? I think you were at George's hotel the day of the London meet - that's when we first met!!

@Snarkbait - wow we have been through some stuff - yikes I think I even owe you still!!! :LOL

amazing to find so many original members still posting here, great too

@WEDOE Mark Sibley programmed THESE FORUMS? wow, that is quite a feat - I wonder if he will ever consider converting them to vBulletun or phpBB or something of this nature :-) (just a thought)

@WEDOE I remember you made your own version of blitzbasiccom is it still going? I think you were at George's hotel the day of the London meet - that's when we first met!!

Sorry, www.blitzbasic.no is no more, didn't support and update it properly so I let it die....

Yep, the hotel it was, you had your son with you also.

About the forums: I have no idea, I just recall Mark programmed the forums himself to have full control over the code.
I'm have only scratched the PHP surface myself but it' seems not an insuperable task to make a forum.
I guess drifting it, holding spam and foul language out of it, is the real challenge....

where was the CW 2 event?

That was in Doncaster that I went with my mates. I meet some people like Bazzy(Jason Bazzy), Caff, Cyberseth, Graham k and so on. I didnt see you as I dont know where you were. lol

lol @ QAOP, not heard that in ages blodrone. ;)
(hello, c h i e f y!)

hey chiefy i used to play you at chess and laser squad...lost every time!:(:(

All hail the chief! -- just decided to pop in here and have a bit of a LURK and who should be KICKING around.

Andy

Yeah hi Chiefy :)

Foppy's back as well!

Yes I remember a long time ago when Noel Cower said on irc "hey you have to try World of Warcraft", well I did and now I am back!

hehe.. :)

My local newspaper Ottawa Sun had a link to the remake there a couple weeks ago, thought it was kind of cool to see something like that mentioned years after it's been out.
