Watching tv online?

Has anyone ever tried any software that allows you to watch tv online?

I'm looking at one product called DishNetPC TV.
Does anyone know anything about such products?

I know if you use a tv tuner card you can view tv on the computer but I'm looking for other options.

Dunno, but I watch Top Gear and Dr Who on BBC iPlayer.

You may need to clarify if you mean, watch tv online legally, or just watch tv :)

In the UK only the major channels (BBC and ITV I know for sure) have their own online player to legally watch selected shows, and without licence. I don't think they can be played outside UK.

I didn't want to do anything illegally. I was inquirying if any of those products really work at giving you tv broadcasts online.

I watch BBC online with the iplayer, but I get the iplayer on my cable box too, in much better quality so I prefer that.

There's a good player called zattoo (www.zattoo.com) that let's you watch some major channels in other countries. Not sure how legal that is though.

I would recommend also zattoo, it is free, legal, and works great.

If you have Sky TV, you can watch programmes using Sky TV Player

I've quit watching TV years ago and don't own a TV anymore. Once you freed your mind from that tranquilizer for the masses, it's hard to understand why anyone would now want to receive all that stupefying crap also over the Internet.

hehe, I agree with Winnie for a change. When 9/11 hit and we got woken up about 6am and told we were under attack. I thought WTF and ran to the TV to check that our legs weren’t being pulled. Sure enough I got to see the second tower come down live on TV.

Tv was full of so much drivel for weeks after that we decided to stop our cable service. We do have a TV for watching DVD's and once upon a time to play console games. We do get two broadcast stations with poor snowy reception and that’s it. Anything worth watching can usually be found on the internet. Other than Top Gear I haven’t really found anything I couldn't get from Netflix.

I'm amazed that the BBC can demand such high license fees for TV's when 90% of the population pay for satellite TV. The TV license costs $300 as much as a cable TV service and you have to pay the BBC to watch their competitors channels too. The BBC makes enough money and has a huge digital and paper publishing empire as well as licencing programs to other international stations, all built on tax payers money which seems ridiculous in this day and age.

The US equivalent is PBS which is publicly funded. Every now and then they have a funding run where they interupt a weeks broadcasting with occasional pledge volunteer donation runs where you phone in or pay your donations online. Would be fun to see how well BBC did if they tried that.

Zattoo works really well for me :)
