Insider information about Leadwerks Engine 2.1

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Insider information about Leadwerks Engine 2.1

I found this interview from the guys at 3d-test.com with the Leadwerks Engine creator, which is quite interesting to read as it explains lots of background and details about the engine:
http://www.3d-test.com/interviews/leadwerks_1.htm

Leadwerks Engine 2.0 is my favorite engine at the moment as I want to do photorealistic looking games in first place using PoM+DoF+GodRays+Realtime Material Reflections, hundreds of realtime shadows and lights, and Physics and Networking (I'm coding in BlitzMax and C++), although I have of course also C4, Blitz3D, BlitzMax, RealmCrafter 1 and 2, TGE and TGEA, and the obligatory open source engines: Ogre3D, PaperVision3D, Away3D.

I'm confused. Aren't you part of the team who works on the Leadwerks Engine?

No, I just hang out on their forums a lot since I'm developing my games with Leadwerks Engine at the moment.

Sorry, you lost me at 'photorealistic looking games'.

>>I want to do photorealistic looking games in first place using PoM+DoF+GodRays+Realtime Material Reflections<<

..I hope you will make it..far as a know, everything you really see is color and color balance between objects and scene in general, and thats whats makes it real and thats what you really see in real world..putting your hopes in to postprocessing features while basic color scheme is ignored as well as texture artwork, is a big no no, in case of hunting for photorealism..so, here is my suggestion, rather than spending time on pumping your scene with VFX, try this:
1) Spend MORE time on to extraordinary good looking textures..thats major part from where comming your 'photorealism'
2) Spend MORE time on to proper GI and atmosphere lights

3) Spend minimum time with VFX you mentioned because you will see that they are just nice polishing things making your scene looking really nice, without much use of them(VFX)

if you miss 1) and 2) no VFX on this world will make your scene looks photorealistic..

Even though I am not definitly an expert , I feel that people are abusing of VFX

I'm confused, the interviewers inability to spell leads me to beleive that there is not a small chance they work in the third floor of this particular building. Josh, is that your Toyota?

He/she did say he/she didn't work there...

No skid, it's this building:

See ? Not the same one at all !!!!

Does anyone have any outside information about leadwerks and their new engines? Please share all outside information here!

hmmm, the images are removed?!?

hmmm, the images are removed?!?

Seeing as the images above linked directly to the building previously shown on Leadwerks website as being the Leadwerks offices, presumably Josh has since removed the image for some reason.

In the meantime, here's an image of a building that bears a striking resemblance to the building previously shown on Leadwerks website, and previously linked to by the posts above.

I bet if you did a pixel comparison of the two images, the only difference would be the logo at the top...

It IS the same building. Dunno why your all saying they look remarkably like each other :oP

I think focusing your energy on this building thing is the wrong way to go.

Initially I tought that the Leadwerks engine was going to die and never become something productive. Maybe the author's attitude had something to do with that. However I know that when he wants to deliver a kick A product he surely can, 3DWS is one of the best tools I have.

Right now the Leadwerks Engine is becoming very impressive and I will probably buy a license. However, the 3d module from Mark is finally coming, and Unity is super impressive. Josh needs to develop some good tools or the Leadwerks Engine will be a secondary option for developers.

Good post Lumooja, keep them coming.

Josh, is that your Toyota?

Not anymore ;-)

lol

Maybe I wasn't really a fanboy of the Leadwerks Engine so far,
but this video turned me into the ultimate LE2.1 fanboy!

I wish I could get some bonus by buying 100 LE2.1 licenses :)

Oh right, I see that now. I was sure I remembered a thread where Josh said that Mika Heinnonen was writing some shaders and C++ bindings for the engine. At the time, I just thought it was a typo, but if it wasn't you, that would explain why the spelling was different.

There's also some other guy who is writing C++ class headers now for LE2, and someone else has written FastBasic headers for it, and someone has written also C# headers for it.
My version is just a fast C_in_C++ version.

It's all registered open source, and I don't get paid for anything.
I think also that money is slowing development of everything down a lot, and everything should be free and open source.
