not a real ps2 vs ps3 comparison
more of a "here's our old ps2 game and the newer ps3 version, lets blame the ps2 for our lacking of realistic animation skills"

people have been able to do realistic instead of 'turntable' spin animation since the 3do days they just chose not to
and turning in 45 degrees?
i thought lhat was left behind in 2d games and 8 direction dpads/cursor

What they really do is only compare old software with new software, nothing to do with the PS2 or PS3 at all.

The PS2 can do the same thing, only maybe a bit slower and in a less graphics mode.

Seen this video at least 1 year ago...

..this 45 degrees turning is really dumb comparison..if that is exposure of PS3 power over PS2, then this guy who use to do presentation should go in to toilet and be shy for an hour..

looks like a comparison of nba live from ps2 to ps3, not a comparison of what the machines are capable of.

its EA so it will still play like the ps2 version because all they ever update is the graphics ;O)

Very True!

>>not a comparison of what the machines are capable of. <<
Guy said clearly 'how PS2 doing things by turning player for 45 degrees'..he didnt mention lack of his coders to do so since PS2 can perfectly smooth turn some stupid character..he was all time pointing how PS2 did this, and PS3 do this..etc, while, actually its their game and their faulty not PS2..I really hate this big companies whos looking for every possible exuse to show that weather conditions in katmandu, causing their game fail on market because weather service lie to them..go indie go go..

the PS3 came out with retro capability to play PS1 games

* this capability is lost on brand new PS3s purchased in the shops right now *

so are there any PS1 games still worth playing ?? DEFINITELY but then again "suddenly" they are few are far between, spot the PS1 game !!

I think for any PS1 game worth playing, you can find an equal or better PS2/PS3 game.

true but to some playstation fanatics, the guys who lived and breathed PS1 for the first 4 or 5 years of them being MEGA there are certain PS1 games that have no comparison on PS2 or PS3 like X-COM TERROR FROM THE DEEP - I'm still playing those missions now, VANDAL HEARTS, FFVIII, Alien Trilogy, DOOM - Front Mission3, DRIVER Twisted Metal World Tour, the list goes on

to a true PS1 fan these games cannot be exceeded even on PS2 or PS3 platforms :LOL

Ah yeah, Twisted Metal was awesome. Slightly poor AI but the idea was great.

Better as in they hold physics and much better graphics, sure. But longer/better gameplay (as in more enjoyable, and disregarding realism)?
I haven't found that in any recent console game and i'm pretty open minded to new crap. Seems like more work was actually done in the past with focusing on the actual gameplay and experimental features, not just the media. Any game i've rented in the past year, I could usually beat within a day or two of VERY easy going play. Older consoles were not like that at all, from my experience.

I thought we played games to expand reality, not get closer to it :-P

But...that's just my worthless opinion.

just more hype - lol

that's what happens when the person selling it isn't a gamer - lol

i still think it sucks that ps3 ditched a fair ammount of ps1 (and 2) backward compatibility

i got a psone with lcd clip on monitor not long after i first moved down here (tail end of 03) and had hogs of war after enjoying the game on the pc many moons before (and startopia for that matter pc that is) but pc was ooop norf till i was more settled, if needed i could have moved out with 2 holdalls and a rucksack (and mrMerrygrimi in tow)

and when i got new pc hos was the first to be installed ... only to be told 'sorry i dont like NT', thankfully star topia did work on XP

so if i ever get the urge to hog it, i either have to set up old pc, find psone or let the urge subside :(

i think the xbox/360 legacy issue was due to the change of gfx providers, but i could be wrong ... it seems a shame to force consumers to keep hold of old hard ware to play old games

ps3 ditched a fair ammount of ps1 (and 2) backward compatibility

a fair amount?

the brand new ones out now have NO BACKWARD CAPABILITY AT ALL - real shame

@GfK TWISTED METAL WORLD TOUR was playstation's finest hour!!! all the level theme music was legendary too, check out the first level on the link above - great music and so great programming too, just imagine programming this lot!! multiple enemies - radar - weapons, special weapons, superb collision detection and of course "3D movement physics" a classic PS1 game undoubtedly

Yep, i loved two player twisted metal on the PS. I played it about 4 or 5 month ago... Hmmm, the graphics are really bad and the framerate is terrible. After playing it for a while, it became a little better.

The 2D games are still great though :D
