WalMart is currently offering an online AND in-store promotion where you can get a $100 gift card if you purchase any blu-ray player, which includes the PS3.

That's a PS3 for $300!

In other news, I found out about this deal after responding to a Craigslist ad for a $300 PS3, then arriving at the designated meeting place ten minutes early, after the fellow insisted I not be late, then spent a further THREE hours being strung along over the phone with various excuses being provided for said lateness, until I finally said screw it and went home. Then a further three hours later I get a call from a confused fellow who wants to know why I called him, with a blocked number. I tell him I didn't call him. Then he calls back, without his number blocked... It was the PS3 guy's number. And he says I caleld him a whole bunch of times that day, and asks if I know a Matt. Hell YEAH I know a Matt. And I told him what his 22 year old KID had been up to that day.

I think I can hear the beating from here. *smile*

Damn thing was probably stolen. His story on Craigslist was that it was unopened because he bought it and a 360 for his newphew, who didn't want them.

Anyway, I NONETHELESS have my $300 PS3, so NEENER NEENER you stupid kid!

Oh, and the reason I was in the market for one of these horribly overpriced things is because I didn't get to play the last two Metal Gear Solid games, and I just couldn't let the next and LAST one, which is getting perfect scores, pass my by.

Plus, it's a $300 blu-ray player. How can you beat that?

lol, fun day

MSG4 won't be the last one... but at least you can play Little Big World ;)

Just don't leave the PS3 in standby, or you'll pay whatever it is you've saved in electricity.

Ooh, I forgot about Little Big World, when does that come out? :-)

OH WAIT I FORGOT I DON'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS*. :-(

*(Who will play video games with me.)

Regarding "standby":

Do you mean don't leave the switch on the back on, or don't leave it with the screensaver on?

Ie, should I turn it off with the switch on the front, or the switch on the back?

Switch on the back. If the little red light is on at the front then it's in standby mode.

I think you can get the complete series in Walmart. :)

The funny thing about walmart gift cards.... Well you'll find out :-)

Careful of regionism. A mate in sweden imported a US one and cannot play EU movies. I guess it can be chipped though :/

Works with the games though and for that price cant really complain can ya? :)

What's so funny about Walmart gift cards? I've never had any issue with any gift card I've ever used, anywhere.

Nope. Buying movies online is an easy and convenient solution to this problem. It's worth noting that blu-ray regions are different and cover a wider area than DVD regions. Additionally, many blu-ray movies are region free - as are PS3 games. I own a white Hong Kong PS3 but I live in the UK. All the downloadable content from the UK store works, I can play Hong Kong and US region coded blu-ray movies and many UK blu-ray shop bought movies work too (because they are often region free). UK shop bought PS3 games work perfectly. This just goes to show how "region friendly" the PS3 is.

With swedish subtitles? He reckons every (scandinavian release) movie he has tried so far wont work. Perhaps scandinavia and the rest of EU are different somehow. No problems with games though.
However he didn't say weather he meant dvd or blueray. :/

So I spent the gift card on Gran Turismo, a Dualshock controller, and a remote. There were no issues Dark Half. :-)

I noticed that about Blu-Ray discs i bought from abroad. Region free :D

sswift can you do a test on yours please? does it play PS1 games? :=)

My 80gb PS3 plays PS1 games fine, PS2 games on the other hand are hit or miss since the 80gb models have to fully emulate the ps2 iirc.
(unlike the 60gb models which had a couple pieces of hardware to help with that)

Chiefy:
I don't have any PS1 games to test with, but I just checked, and people are saying on other forums that the 40gb PS3 can play PS1 games but not PS2 games. They took out the chips that let it play PS2 games which were in the original 60GB PS3's so they could build them more cheaply.

Rumour has it that Sony will be providing a software emulator at some point for those models that currently lack backwards compatibility.

I can't wait to pick up Metal Gear. I grabbed one of the last 60GB models this past December. Haven't really used it to play much besides some downloaded demos but the movie player has been nice.

Be warned, Metal Gear is very over-hyped. It's a solid game (see what I did there?) and nothing more.

What game isn't?

Erm... Fatal Racing?

OK, you win. :/

I watched a video from Fatal Racing. One track looks about exactly like Ridge Racer and then all of a sudden there's a twisty ramp. Wish I had played it back in '95 would've blown me away.

No, really, it wouldn't. Trust me.

Heh, too late now, got mine for quite a few months, and love every minute of GTA IV on this bad boy. Pretty good upgrade I did on the HDD in this, and got a 160GB PS3 instead of the 40GB that I originally had.
