Finally.

So Jack Thompson disbarred and Hillary Clinton losing the Democratic nomination. Looks like it's going to be a good time for video games after all.

This just made my day.

I hadn't noticed many others to be honest, and if he wasn't so OTT and annoying I'd probably support some of his campaigns.

Umm... violence? Mortal Kombats, Street Fighters, Space Shmups, and millions of others are all "violent." Heck, Pong could be considered first-degree battery!

Not violent anywhere near as distastefully as the rockstar games, and a lot more removed from real life too. Rockstar are the only developer that try and push the boundaries of what would normaly be unacceptable, and I'd like to see them disappear too.

What? GTA4 is more violent than Americas Army? That a game about street crime is more distasteful than one about war crimes? That a game produced for entertainment is worse than a game produced as part of a recruitment drive? A game that features real US soldiers is more removed from real life than one featuring a caricature of a Slavic mobster?

On which planet is GTA 4 in worse taste than Americas Army?

I think what everyone wants to play is for him/herself to decide.

And GTA has an 18+ label on it. So if a parent buys that game for their kids they are just stupid.

I was laughing my ass off when there was that discussion about that coffee mod in san andreas. I mean... the game is 18+ and even if everything was exposed, so what!
If you would buy an adult movie would you think the same way? Someone is naked in that movie, so let's ban it...
I just see storymode based games a bit as interactive movies, in which you play a hero or the bad guy.

The only thing I would agree on is if storekeepers would sell 18+ material to minors they should be punished in some way.

Yep, GTA IV is much more violent than american army by some considerable margin. It's all about how, why and where the violence is used not that it is violent.

No, it's about the army. A war crime is not involved. Indeed, shooting the DI gets you thrown in jail.
