Yargh! Sound gone on my macbookpro

I've switched on today to find that no sound comes out! When I try the sound up or down buttons, it displays the volume as full, with a little 'forbidden' sign underneath. Anyone else ever had this? I did have a system update yesterday, I wonder if that was it? I wonder how I'd be able to tell...

Phew, storm in a teacup hopefully. Seems the update screwed with some permissions, and repairing those and restarting has fixed it. Apparently there have been other problems associated with that update, but I haven't encountered them yet...

You're not alone: It has happened a few times on my PowerBook G4, but rebooting usually helped.

Buy a PC, my sounds never broken, and I even have two sound cards both running at once! (one's for skype)

Is it not possible to have a Mac problem without someone telling you to buy a PC? :-P
