I have such a binaural mic (to put in your own ears). You know what's really scary? Recording your own fart, and then after while when you forgot about it, you'd swear you'd done another one! Great fun to add such a sound to a piece of music someone's listening to. :D

We had a pair of *very* expensive microphone "headphones". sound was recorded while they were in your ears and it was pretty amasing recording a journey to work. Brilliant stuff.

Recorded journey to some place myself multiple times, it's amazing what you will hear what you normally don't notice.

Really cool. Makes the hairs on your neck stand up when they come really close to your ear and whisper. What I find really impressive (about the human brain as much as this technique) is how you can tell when a sound is in front of you or behind you, and similarly above or below you.

The plastic bag and shaver were rather disconcerting. Why don't we have this in games already!!!

With a surround system you mean? The problem here is that speakers in your room imply that your room adds acoustics to your sound, whereas a headphones features no added acoustics at all. These kinda binaural sounds heavily rely on the recorded acoustics! Besides, how many people have a surround system set up properly? In bedrooms there's no place, and in living rooms there's the wife who doesn't want all those speakers on spikes in the room. Many ppl have tucked away their speakers behind the sofa 'n similar objects. Heck, fat chance that plenty o' ppl don't even have the real 5.1 setup, but just put their speakers everywhere on the most illogical places. I can imagine that the industry may not be too enthusiastic to invest in 5.1 mixes, let alone binaural headphone mixes (it's not like everyone's playing with headphones all the time)..
