What to buy?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What to buy?

I have around £50 from some birthday cash I got, though, I havent a clue what to buy/waste it on.

So, since you lot share in the same passion as me, which is programming obviously...

What would you buy if you had 50 english snots in your sky rocket to help you on your dev journey?

Or what little gizmo would you go for too?

Oh, and I have a Wii, so any recommended games, fire away! :)

1. Take the wife out for supper.
2. Buy our grandkids a console game.
3. Buy a new keyboard and maybe a mouse
4. Buy a spare CD/DVD burner (for a backup)
5. Stock up on blank CDs/DVDs
6. Stock up on cigars

1. Beer.
2. SATA hard drive cos my IDE one is slightly maimed following an electrical 'accident' last week.
3. Some more beer.
4. A remote control helicopter from Netto to amuse and terrify the cats with.
5. Maybe a little more beer.
6. A bag of pork scratchings.

I'm with Gfk on 1,3,5 and 6. After the bag of pork scratchings you will need more of 1,3, and 5 as 6 is a little salty.

Buy some good books. If you like Zombie stuff, get Z.A. Recht's "Plague of the dead" and its recently released sequel "Thunder and Ashes". They'd make a great movie and probably even a nice game.

Another nice read are "The Traveler" and its sequel "The Dark River" by John Twelve Hawks.

Of course, if you haven't read it, yet, get yourself a copy of "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo.

Or the Musketeer Trilogy by Alexandre Dumas. Or, or, or...

You could also buy some GOOD wine and cook for your friends. With that budget, a spanish Faustino I would be a good start - I like Rioja wines. ;-)

Games: I cannot recommend anything for the Wii, because I don't have one. "Timshift" was a good title for the Xbox 360 - not outstanding, but good, especially in the second half, which most of the people who gave it bad or mediocre criticisms obviously have not even played.

"Turning Point" had very disappointing graphics for a 2008 release, so I can only recommend that when you like that very specific theme for a game.

Here's a new thought: Buy a game from a fellow Blitzer! "Tank Universal", "Tecno - The Base" and "Eschalon: Book I" come immediately to my mind. Or buy Grey Alien's Game Framework. Or PhysLite. Or donate something to one of the projects.

Or just leave the money on your savings account until you really know what you want and need.

..charity gift sounds good to me..

GFK's #4 sounds good to me. If I could figure out how to rig it up so it would drop firecrackers and light them before dropping them, I would take care of the neighbor's cat who keeps crapping in my wife's flower beds.

With 50 quid you could have an English Breakfast every day for about 2 weeks.

Ahh picture the sausages, fried tomatoes, 2 egg, 2 bacon, beans Mmmmm. :)

[edit] Yes I'm hungry.....

[edit 2] I know it's late but Happy Birthday m8. I turned 29 myself on the 13th of may. :)

Donate to a rational charity..

Save your money for the wii version of Duke Forever.

How much is a wii fit? They're a good laugh.

Well, the fridge is full to the brim with beer, Stella Artois... lol, beer is part of our shopping and I always make I have plenty in! :)

NO! Haven't looked over there in a while. I couldn't remember the name of it.

Going off-topic a tad, but I got some of this from eBay, although you can get similar things in garden centers too.

It stinks rotten (to cats, and also works on dogs). Just scatter it around on the flower beds and cats won't go anywhere near it. It does discolour the leaves on certain plants though, so make sure not to get it on them if you can avoid it.

Actually it doesn't smell that nice to me, either. But the smell goes away after a couple hours (but it continues to keep cats away for weeks and eventually they'll just crap some place else)
