ATI and DirectX problem, anyone?

I have noticed that on my ATI Raedon 9250, DirectX will slow down the animation of windows minimizing, restoring, and maximizing. OpenGL doesn't do this, though. Anyone else have/had this problem?

I get the same on my Nvidia 7600GT. Windows XP was next to unusable with it, yet Vista is fine.

This happened to me the first time I entered windows xp after installation.

You should check your drivers, after I updated the BIOS for my motherboard and my ATI HD 2600 drivers it is fine.

My drivers are up to date. I should add that Vista runs like a pig too, if I switch to a basic theme instead of Aero.

Also tried the latest Forceware Beta drivers.

I think I'm using the latest BIOS but my motherboard's getting a bit old.

[edit] My motherboard is an XFX Mach4 KT600-ALX (socket 462). I'm not on that PC at the moment but I'm sure the current BIOS version is 6.00PG. Any idea where to start finding out if there's a more recent version? An hour of googling has turned up very little and obviously I don't want to get it wrong.

Have you tried uninstalling,reboot and re installing drivers.
And you could do with an upgrade as it looks like XFX/Pine ( http://www.pine-support.com/ ) no longer support that motherboard.

You could try searching one of the driver download sites.

uninstall AND use one of the driver removal tools (for example from guru3d.com)

most old drivers leave fragments on the system that cause such issues.

Perhaps it's a broken operating system, I would try installing Linux.

How would installing a virus solve the problem with 3d usability in DX?
