I didn't mention it yesterday as we had some teething problems - but you can now go ahead and download.

Note: this is a XP Service Pack.

XP Service Pack 3 Kills AMD Machines

SP3 is no longer anything to do with me!

My computer runs fine, AMD 3500+ SP3.

The random hung issue mentioned on tomshardware sounds familiar to me when using XP SP3 on my MacBook Pro Bootcamp ...

The "SP3 kills AMD" is due to some OEM's incorrectlyusing a single disk image for both their Intel & AMD offerings. After the upgrade, the intel driver can then cause issues on an AMD-based system.

either removing the intel driver before the upgrade, or going into save mode after the upgrade and telling it to skip the intel driver will resolve the issue.

If you installed windows from a standard XP disk (not the OEM recovery disk) you'll be fine as well.

another common cause for crashed SP installs is spyware -- some of the low-level malware can interfere with windows' normal behavious, so It's always strongly recommended to do a spyware scan before applying a servicepack.

Isn't that kind of counterproductive to remove SP3 if you intended to install it? ;-)

No problems with SP3 on my system. Athlon 64 3000+
