Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/GTA4 - first day sales

609,000 copies sold in a single day. Which is quite good.

Yet amazingly, they aren't even half way to breaking even yet. Oh, and apparently Rockstar have now acknowledged that there's a bug in the retail version on both platforms, that causes cut-scenes to freeze. Makes you wonder how their QA people don't spot things like this.

Do you really think that they didn't? Oh, GfK, how quickly you forget...

It was sold out when I went to buy it - so I didn't buy it or a 360. I'm up by £200.

I assume they'll be releasing a patch to fix this? I don't remember ANY top line title before the advent of console patches, that ever had an error that would freeze a game. Funny eh?

Oh and on the point of GTA4 being sold out. Why? Surely it would be a target to create record breaking first day sales. So why not have enough copies, whilst the hype is still huge for it?

Driver 3 (or 'Driv3r' as they like to call it). PS2 version is bugged to hell. You can drop through the floor in it. And sometimes if you fall off a motorbike, the player gets stuck on the floor and you can't move.

Most expensive coaster I ever bought.

Those sales are just for the UK. Worldwide sales are several times that, so they've easily recouped it's development cost already.

I've reinstalled the GTAIII series - going to play the 3 of them again - seeing as I cannot play GTAIV.

I guess they have to stop somewhere to avoid leaving shops stocked with games they can't initially shift. Or perhaps it's simply that ensuring there isn't enough stock only makes the hype "hypier".

Yep, I think it cost something like fifty million (GBP) to develop? And first week worldwide sales are predicted to be in the vicinity of two hundred million (GBP). So not too bad.

And? They got 50 Million USD already by MS for downloadable content for the X360 content
