..yes call me crazy or whatever...after so many renderers/engines I brought, I got my copy of S2 game thi s morning...my first impressions was excellent..its fully shader3 model supported engine, integrated physics, multilayered AI, all possible editors for it(Scene editor, Animation editor, Scene VFX editor..)..developer is really kind and responding quickly..most funny part is script language soooooo easy to control all aspects of engine..I luv it :).. of course there is SDK for C++ lovers so you can modify low end of engine...comming with all exporters for most modelling/animation tools...mm..juicy..and yes..its just 135 euros.. :) .. well..since I luv ya all, i just wanted to share my excitement about it...im going to dig in it now..:)
I got S2
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/I got S2 Yep, I'm surprised the S2 engine isn't better known and more popular. For first person shooters, third person shooters and a few other genres like maybe third person RPG's, it's fantastic. I sadly don't get enough time to play with it, what with work and all, but I do own a license and I'm also very impressed. 1.4 was great, and the new 1.5 release added some more very nice features.

Looks like a very nice engine but somehow it feels like Conitec's A6, C4 or a similar system. Nice features but on the main end it has some massive shortcommings.
Massive system requirements (bad scaling if it scales at all. Which engine that supports SM3 enforces SM3?!?!), OpenGL only on a Windows only engine
Benefit is that it allows you up to 5 parallel installations so great for small teams. Something other engines often do not allow to do.
So surely better than half the available technologies but definitely would benefit from an acceptable scaling mechanism, there is very little market for mid-high end SM3 only games.

..time will come..time will come ya :)
by the time it comes, OpenGL 2 will be outdated and be replaced by OpenGL 3 for unified shader usage (till then only possible on NVIDIA cards through cg 2.0). So the engine might need an upgrade once again with rewrite of several parts as OGL 3 is not just OGL 2 + new commands
ayayaya..okay..U win :)

The always popular Leadwerks engine?
Yupp it is as "good" visually for game development in the reality. (but it even misses the editors etc)
@Naughty Alien
From the first impressions, how would you compare it to Unity?
From the first impressions, how would you compare it to Unity?
hey Taumel...well..im not expert for S2, but it was easy to pick up scripting language for me, in really no time...Unity using its own compiler, while this thing has already 'player' so basically you just save your scripts in script folder and watch whats happening...nice..it has nice world level builder, and terrain builder, so you can actually very easy build, modify, paint your level with textures..material editor is very simple and nice to use with real time preview, so you just save material and apply on to surface you want and its rolling...you can cast/receive shadows on to every single object on scene, without fps loss, Scene editor allowing you to play/modify your game in real time with all effects as in real game, editing pathfinding nodes, setting up AI scripts and so on..for characters , there is nice editor where you can preview, setup or change animation as well as attach some other prefabs on to specific bone if you want to(eg. armor, sword, and stuff)...all in all, it was nice thing to play with..and absolutely next gen..for sure..all in all, I like it, but Unity is a multiplatform thingy, and it has nice editor 'ALL IN ONE', so my vote goes for Unity..but if you want something like Crysis to be done, S2 can do it man...provided FPS demo showing such nice vfx with lights and stuff..and yes..your geometry you have to build in world editor, so having that in mind, I cant 3DSMAX on the way I use with B3D for example..but as a bunch of prefabs...something like DarkRoom studios engine..but I guess, i can build my prefabs in max and import it since there is nice exporters for Max, for static and animated meshes as well as Collada is supported...nice thingy...2 millions polys rendering in no time :) .. anyway..nice lil game Im working on(started in B3D) i will keep push on Unity...S2 at the moment will be nice thing to play with :)
it is shame that they dont have demo for people to try out :(
there are videos so you can see it..or if you wan, i can pack demo they delivering with system so you can see if you want..I mean is it legal??
you could record it on youtube on your S2 Engine tutorial :)
so we can see it if is good or not.

Have you looked at the S2 videos which are already on YouTube?
I liked this one myself:

The video look very interesting. I guess S2 Engine 1.5 mean it can only make FPS games....correct me if I am wrong
cheers Gabriel :)

well..far as i can see, you can make pretty much any kind of game (except 2d games), so its entirely depending on your level design..but camera management as well as other things, doesn't limiting you only on to FPS as I can see...with Ultraedit-32 its really nice to code this thing ;)
