I won an XBOX 360 Elite...

...but I'm not actually sure if I have a need for it. The Wii meets all of my (casual) gaming needs (Mario Kart Wii is great fun).

At first I was chuffed that I'd actualy won something (in a Microsoft VS2008 competition) but, now that it's sitting here next to me, still sealed, I'm not sure if its worth me opening it. Will I use it? Hmmm... To use it as a wireless media centre (streaming DivX sounded cool), I'd need to invest in an adapter @ £50 - £60. Money I haven't got. I'm not really an avid gamer, so I wouldn't use it as a games console.

I hate ebay, so the thought of selling it on there doesn't appeal to me. The combination of ebay and PayPal fees is just too much these days.

Do any of the UK retailers (Game, Game Station etc) buy consoles from Joe Public? Does anyone know how much they'd give me if I traded it in?

Sell it private but put a fair "Buy it now" price on.

Game etc do buy consoles, but they'll pay you next to nothing for it as they'd still have to sell it as 'used', even though it technically isn't, but they'd have to open it and check it all works before buying it off you.

[edit] ...or raffle it. £5 a ticket. One lucky person will get a bargain, and with luck you'd sell a fair amount of tickets.

There are shops around here (Portsmouth area) which buy items sealed and pay extra for them, but they're not big chains like Game or GameStation. You could try some of the private game stores and see if they'll buy it for a higher price sealed.

Put it in the local ad trader or give it to me for nowt! :P

If your a gamer I'd Keep it. The 360 has the best games of all three systems whilst the Wii mostly has gimmicky casual games and the usual first party titles. cross platform games are usualy better on the 360 than PS3 too. So with both a wii and 360 you have the best combo.

if its still sealed and you are trying to flog it you might get the 'hes stolen it' look a fair few times

aye they buy (real) low and sell below new prices so although you got it for nowt any dosh you get is a bonus its just not going to be as much as most people would like

the raffle idea sounds cool

donate it to a school to raffle off if you cant be bothered doing it yourself (but that means giving it away but it comes with the warm fuzzy feeling of doing something nice (i hate that feeling myself ;) ) )

Sell it to someone you know? Surely they be more than willing to pay £200 for an xbox elite console? Especially if it's got the receipt and such, and it's not been opened.

I don't think retailers will touch it because even though it's boxed. I'd either keep it and play the games or sell it either to someone locally or grit your teeth and ebay it.

I just don't get your problem here, Joe. Why don't you just keep the good console for which there are good games available and sell the Wii instead...?

Then download XNA and program the Xbox in C#. After all, you've won it in a VS2008 competition and should know you way around these Microsoft products.

But if you still want to get rid off it... Just say how much (little) you want for the Xbox and if you are willing to ship it to Germany. And keep in mind that a German buyer would still need to buy a power adapter for it; your British stuff doesn't work here.

If you were in the USA I'd recommend craigslist. If you do advertise it, surely you have proof that you won it in a competition? So people would know it wasn't stolen.

@Evak: Originally I was asking if anyone knew if any UK retailers would buy the 360 from me or, alternatively, if anyone knew roughly how much I'd get if I traded it in (it's all there in the first post).

I phoned my local CeX store earlier today, and they said they'd give me £150 cash, or £200 trade in. I'm trying to convince myself to keep it, but I think it would just sit there collecting dust.

Play on it!!! I used to have a wii but the lack of descent games made me switch it for a 360, I'd never go back. But now mygirlfriend wants a wii again cause she reckons some better games have finally come out for it. So we may end up with both.

You could try Amazon's or Play's 'sell your stuff' service.

I'll buy it for £50.00 if you are stuck to get a buyer and need to get rid of it - I don't really need it, which is why my offer is low.
