Free Legal Commercial Games

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Free Legal Commercial Games

I have built a list of all legal free commercial games I can find. List includes, GTA1 & 2, Railroad Tycoon, Another World HD, Battlecruiser Millenium, C&C Gold, Fear Multiplayer and others!. Complete with download links on my own little blog that I started.

Feel free to locate the list right here!.

I will continue to update the list in the future, should I find anymore games worth adding.

The Another World game is demo only. There's some scary stuff on that blog, if Shag asks you to call him, beware...

For Mechcommander 1, 2 and Gold.

awesome, going to add mech - thanks

As for the other stuff, the premium number thing can be used to set up one for your own (games) company to give yourself a national identity for only £10. People who phone will be charged at 10p/min and you get 4p/min.

I am using the number myself for becoming a "pro-comper", that's entering as many competitions as possible, when they ask for a number I hand them this one. Each compo I enter, I untick the box for marketing calls. So should I get any cold callers on this number then I am more then happy to listen to them and ask about there services.

I will state this is just a little project I am having a crack at, as I have spare time to try something like this.

I also removed the link to Another World as it was a demo, thanks for that.

Sweet!! Hidden and Dangerous. I have the original CD somewhere buried in a box at the back of the shed. Must download that one and play it again.

Thanks for the linky :)

If by Another World HD you mean the latest Collector's Edition, it's not free.

Here it is a list of (almost) any commercial game which was later released for free:

Good find Doiron!

hehe, Hidden and Dangerous was the first game that got me really interested in FPS. I played quake and Doom etc. But they were too simple, and I didn't care for the first tom clancy games much either.

H&D was awesome in its day.

MMORPG: www.knightsonline.com Its like World of warcraft but freee.

MMORPG 2d: www.tibia.com ; Its like "zelda" but also an MMO.

H&D was awesome in its day.

It still is :) - Sure it hasn't got all the flashy graphics available today but it's still a kick ass game and well thought out levels.

The current link for Knights Online seems to be http://knightonlineworld.gamersfirst.com/ . www.knightsonline.com goes to a parked page.

Some of these are commerical games:

There is also this one:
http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/

which gives for free two shareware/commercial games each weekend.

i just read fastlane pinball as plastacine pinball now that would be an interesting mechanic ... my balls stuck to the flipper and oddly square now

hehe, you get H&D and the expansion pack plus extra goodies. Going to grab it right away :)

This whole thing sounds phishy.

How so? They're all formerly commercial games that have been re-released by their original owners for no charge.

C&C was givin out for free on its 15th anniversary, IIRC.

I downloaded it and played again for a bit, and couldn't help noticing just how much RTS games had improved over the past 15 years... Definitely felt dated.

The two websites I listed are not. It's not uncommon to release for free games released commercially in the past (some of the first were Dink Smallwood and Battlecruiser 3000AD, while one of the most notable and recent one was The Ur-Quan Masters which improved the original Star Control 2 by using source code provided by the creators themselves). It has not to be confused with abandonware, where many websites just provide games not available for sale anymore without checking with the copyright holder.

Giveawayoftheday instead provides a way to advertise developer's products by offering one of them for free just for one day.
