Another 3D Mark, another slice off what your allowed to do with it wihout paying more money.

Just one run now if you download the trial, ONE.

If you buy basic you get to run it with one preset setting, like the previous trial.

It's obvious from the profssional wording they want to prevent people using it in reviews without buying a commercial license for $495.

Well... about (low-end) pricing; if anyone who can buy a rig that can actually run Vantage but can't pay $6.95 (that's like 2€ ;P) for a license... although on the other hand they might not have a penny left after the rig purchase :)

And it's Vista only, so XP users can't run it. I'm sure peeps will cry about that a lot, and say we get only one user... I doubt that. Installed Vista base is growing rapidly and in any case DX10x and Vista are the combo for current times and near future - even if most don't like it.

DX9 and XP users still have the previous edition of 3DMark like always... one version for each DX-gen has been the trend for some time.

My gaming system will run it - except it cannot as I have XP.

I heard microsoft is cutting xp soon... so eventually people will HAVE to have vista, then there isn't a problem! :D

I'll just buy a new gaming system with Vista on it - then I'll still have my other two gaming systems with XP on them.

Download, install once on your rig, run it couple times to make sure the score is right. Compare with others, uninstall, bye.

That's pretty sad for the new Vantage version. But, usually, when I want to try 3DMark, I don't leave it in my system. It's really not something I want to keep on my system. Just want to see my score and get it out. Often I'm deveived by my system, like 10k on the 2006 version (tried yesterday). There are so many more useful tools than this for your graphics card.

Well nothing against you but this "little benchmark" application made NVIDIA and ATI modify drivers just to get nice scores in a completely unrealistic scenario and hurting the real scenarios till some "bad bad magazine" is able to proof it and the special switches get patched out again.

Its not like the 3D Mark by definition is bad. It just helps people to focus on trash instead of the really important thing in game creation and no, that is not graphics as great graphics gives no good game experience as well all know from 70% of the trash released each year on next-gen consoles and PC

If they would stop to waste time in developping even more demanding graphics stuff for their benchmark and would start to use the shaders for GPGPU to add AI etc to it, then it would be a really interesting thing after all. But they are just like many "HD game creators" with a focus on the unimportant aspect for 80%+ of the gamers (ie those who have at best a card to run that thing)

I for one tried 3d mark about 6 years ago and was VERY disappointed. The trial gave me a basic idea of my score, then I was pushed to purchase for the cool stuff (which is just eye candy on your pc, if it runs, anyhow), so I didn't purchase, and uninstalled (just as _33 stated).

I know of no one personally that uses 3dMark (and I go to a good number of LAN parties a year where you see the over clockers who actually care about their speeds).

Nothing against 3d Mark, and nothings against you Mustang for I can see how it takes a lot of effort to make this, but if your going to continually come to forums to push 3dmark software you have to come to the harsh realization that it isn't something anyone needs on their pc. It's a quick eye candy show (for those with the raw power, most cases not where the system runs at a 20 fps) and then you see how you compare to others in which case you say "ooo, a 276 with this guy over here scoring a 895, he's probably rich, or at least has a rich father!". then you never run it again where at 4 months later you clean out the pc going over the installed apps list under control panel seeing 3dmark (trial) saying "hmmm, yeah, I don't need it for anything, hell, I'll probably be upgrading this hunk of crap in a year anyhow"

Well, that was my opinion anyhow.. Sure you can argue it's only 6.95 and that anyone who can afford the hardware can afford the software however those who can afford the hardware didn't get to affording such hardware by being loose with their cash (well, 90% of them anyhow). I spend oodles of money on Airsoft and Paintball (more-so airsoft these days) but that doesn't mean that just because someone is pushing a 6 dollar wristband that says I'm a "cool guy" doesn't mean I am disrespectful for declining nor for asking "ummm, and why do I need this" or better yet saying "you still want me to buy it even though you don't have one in my size? Screw you?!?".

I think this is about information and not about pushing a product. Pushing looks different to me.

3D Mark should build a rendering engine that uses real-time technology, but be designed for use by the TV/film industry.

man, I don't know why so many people like to kick someone thats successful and proud of the work they are doing. Seems like there are a lot of 'Bitter' (good Obama quote) people in the Blitz community.

I think the screenshots look pretty awesome, and in a few months those graphics will be fine on mainstream middle of the road hardware.

I think the insults and negativity are really unnecessary, I've been dissapointed with the directions that Futuremark has gone in as the company has evolved. Although I do recognise their need to monetise what they are doing, I just wish they could find different ways of doing it. At the end of the day I'm not depending on it for my paycheck so I have that kind of luxury.

However Mustang is a long standing member of the community who has always provided helpful and and positive feedback and behaved like every inch the professional he is. Everyone likes to pimp work they've done a bit and we are damn lucky he still bothers to post here. Unlike most of he has a real, valid perspective on the gaming business and has a personal stake in it. He didn't make any effort to plug th product; just let us know it was there and if I helped produce something like that I don't know that I'd manage to be so restrained.

By all means we can disagree on wether Vantage is a good and/or worthwhile product but let's do it in a civil way wihtout resorting to name calling or swearing.

From the video i would say the first test doesn't look impressive, the second one seems to look a lot better, i like how you can look inside the big spaceship.
