I'm currently downloading SpecViewPerf 10 so I can see if my open gl performances are up to speed with my new graphics card (8800GTS 512mb, yes I sold my soul to Nvidia!). Anyhow, the reason I am downloading this 600+ mb install is because of Doom 3. I wanted to see how Doom 3 looked and played on the Nvidia card as opposed to the Atari card (which was pretty decent, actually). Doom 3 right now on my system is horribly slow, like a slideshow when the graphics show extensive z buffering, but ok when viewing close items. I've tried many tweaks but can't yet figure it out.
So, hopefully this benchmark with reassure me that the open gl is working fine, but might it be that I am in software mode? I heard about problems with open gl and Vista, but I am on Windows XP SP2 pro. Never had open gl issues before, even on an ATI.
What surprized me when I got to browse this page, is that ATI professionnal graphics solutions can hold their own against nvidia: http://spec.it.miami.edu/gwpg/gpc.data/vp10/summary.html
Besides, open gl, all the other 3d apps just run flawlessly. Only other problems I found are some compatibility issues with the h-sync of my NEC MultiSync 6FG which I didn't have issues with my older ATI card.
EDIT: Oh about drivers, I started with 169.21 from the install of the card, then went for 174.74 beta version. Both gives me the same issues with Doom 3. I'll post my results for SPECViewPerf when possible.
Oh and forever who wants to do their own open gl test on windows, here is SpecViewPerf 10 (it's a free software): http://www.findfiles.com/list.php?db=Both&string=specviewperf
