What is your favourate 3D engine for BlitzMax?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What is your favourate 3D engine for BlitzMax?

Vote on my poll:
http://www.micropoll.com/akira/mpview/416293-85399

At this moment I go for MiniB3D

none

none (not my fault) :O)

Native Max3d... Oh... hang on... that's not out yet is it?!

X-3D

With rob there.

Otherwise irrlicht.core

Those waiting for Max3D or other, can say so on the poll.

Looks like Simonh should of been selling his Mini3D module! :P

At this moment I would go with miniB3D but I'm impatiently waiting for Flow :D

MiniB3D

LeadWerks engine. I tried to vote but the button wouldn't 'press'

Leadwerks.

MiniB3d. All I need is Klepto's improved extended version!

If I was forced to use BMax, I would go with MiniB3D. However, I choose to continue with Blitz3D as it cuter - by a somewhat large margin.

Arm held aloft, "puki" waves his boxed version (with printed manual and additional printed Blitz3D Programming Manual) of Blitz3D in the air.

"puki" acknowledges the roar of excitement from the many thousands of guests that visit the site. The 'oohs' and 'ahhhs' booming from the four corners of the earth.

The 'oohs' and 'ahhhs' booming from the four corners of the earth.
The earth has four corners!? Wait, the earth has corners?

Yes it most certainly does and it is also double-sided.

You can now vote for "Stick with Blitz3D".

Hey, this thing won't let me vote more than once.

My vote goes for the new dx 12.75d engine my friend is writing, comes with shader model 17 and pupil recognition so no pirating. Should be with us about the same time as flying pigs and max3D :-)

On a serious note i'd go for truevision3D, really is easy to understand and use once you get over the basics.

I haven't voted yet, I will sell you my vote

The earth has four corners!? Wait, the earth has corners?

Of course it has!

Mine, suckas!

Blitz3D is in the lead.

Close the vote!!!

Here endeth the voting.

Blitz3D emerges victorious.

Those waiting for Max3D or other,

Did I miss something? Is Max3D still in the works? I'd LOVE to do my flight sim in it...

Mini B3d.. (havent got starting coding in max yet. i like b3d to much)

It's proving to be an interesting poll so far. Certainly says alot about the appeal of Blitz3D and its natural successor (so far) MiniB3D. Mark chose his command set very well.

This all equates to Blitz3D 2 being required.

Leadwerks for teh win!

All these people voting for the Leadworks engine - is it even out yet? Have you actually used it? What's your vote based on?

Yes, Beta2 is out for registered users, and people have been testing it.

If I had to vote for one then Flow
Its the only technology that really seems to be geared toward BM AND beeing meant for windows game development as well not only Linux and OSX (pure OpenGL)

I'd like to say Leadwerks engine because of the feature list. But, I'm holding my breath really. There are a lot of contenders that seem as interesting still, but maybe not as advanced.

feature wise its advanced, but technically its stone age simply because every trash engine is able to scale at least a bit depending on the hardware but leadwerks, like blitz3d, just does nothing like that. The difference is that Josh advertises it as advanced nextgen like engine which it clearly isn't due to this massive shortcomming.

It would have potential if Josh for once goddamned would focus on ONE version and develop that further and further (money can be earned with upgrades you know!) instead of redoing the stuff just to do "something new" or to avoid to fix ugly bugs.
Right now, the engine is only a nice eye candy box but lets hope that josh somewhen starts to adabt regular business practice: get a stable userbase, give benefits to early adopters and long time users by making acceptable upgrade prices ie help them beeing able to trust in you, your product and your vision instead of having to compare technology on each upgrade again and again.

Wow, yesterday Leadworks engine was nowhere - now it's the clear winner! Amazing how these polls turn around isn't it?

In all seriousness I've nothing against Leadworks engine - it may be great, I need to check it out.

Blitz3D still for me.

More like rigged polls.

Naughty "halo" - I'll smack his legs.

how did the old speaking go? "Never trust statistics you didn't fake yourself"

I'm a bit suprised a beta engine is leading the way... Halo isnt Robert Mugabe in disguse his he? hehehe

@Dreamora: It seems Leadwerks Engine 2 is the one and only version there will be. Since it now runs also on ATI cards, there's no need to have other versions anymore.

Are people voting for Leadwerks over Truevision3D because of pretty pictures? From what I can see, TV is better in every way.

Truevision seems to have only DirectX 9 support. I would not even try an engine which doesn't support OpenGL, because then I can't make games which work on Linux, Mac, PS3.

The only competitor I see for Leadwerks is Ogre3D, it has also a nice DirectX9/OpenGL switcher, and lots of language supports, but no BlitzMax yet.

True, TV is Win32 only. I forgot about that.

FLOW was released?

EDIT: Yeah, Leadwerks engine at 34% looks a bit fishy.

Considering this thread http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=72893
what other results do you expects? Max3d? or other?
Many of these 3d engine are mono-platform (the only one multiplatform is Minib3d, I dont' know if Irrlicht is still supported), two of them (Leadwerks and TV3d) are not-free.
And it seems that the only one (not free) that offers something to play is LeadWerks Engine (at the moment only win32).

And if the question is 'What is your favourate 3D engine for BlitzMax' why put the option BLITZ3d? 21% of the results are not correct.

The 'real' question is: how many application using a 3d engine are at the moment in working? And what engine they use?

I wonder how many voters have tried more than 1 engine.

And where is the difference there?
TV3D only supports DX. No problem at least it does it right.

LW engine uses OpenGL. Thats totally great. Beside the fact it is Windows only as well as BM does not create .so and .dylib
So in the end its even worse. It works on an OS on which it uses the non-standard graphics API.

I'ved tried any available engine on that list, though leadwerks only in the demo as I don't pay for a technology that even ran slow on my 8800GTS 640MB SuperClocked compared to what I saw (tested when it was sold at fullprice not early adopter beta testing price so I assume it is 1.0 and done to that state). TV3D had multiple times the performance in the same cases and in the end I dropped them all including Torque in favor of Unity3D which runs even better, runs in browser and is much more flexible to create small games fast.

That doesn't bode well for TV then, because Unity ran like an absolute pig on my 7600GS, which can run Call of Duty 4 and a number of other recent PC games fairly well.

Maybe they just went bananas on the shaders.

Depends on what you did with Unity or what the game did.
Unity allows the creator to define 5 quality levels (fastest to fantastic) and on your card anything above normal to high will not run very well with your cut bandwidth and missing shader cores.
As well the creator of the game can add anything he / she wants shaderwise so yes this might have a serious impact.

http://splume.flashbangstudios.com/play.php
http://raptorsafari.com/play.php

are two very nice games that use the possibility very effective.

Or if you want to see higher end features:

http://www.mrjoy.com/games/webplayer/6

It all depends on how much effort the developer put into the game (ie if he made different effects and shader fallbacks for different levels of visual quality) same as with Blitz3D as well.

Its own integreated features all have auto scaling behavior (preset in the scaling behavior editor) for shadow distance, the texture quality used (ie half size, filtering etc) which make a lot of difference. But you would need to test a stand alone build to see those settings normally unless it was added to the webplayer option menue

Hordes of Orcs ran pretty well, but it's not the most exciting of games ;)

Good to know Unity is scaleable.

I wont vote for any engine till its cross platform (grumble grumble)

I find it hard to believe this happened overnight. Ive been looking at this poll for days and it was b3d/minib3d the other morning.

I reckon someones been doing something fishy.

Minib3d worked on linux (except for cubemapping, for me, that is).

I too am surprised by the poll results, but reading this thread cracks me up. XD

So 226 entries so far. I wonder what percentage this is out of the absolut BlitzMax 3D market.
