Who knew you could play games on an xbox?

Cause for the last three months, I totally forgot!

Here's the reason. Six months back, I got bored of playing xbox live on my original xbox and decided to mod it, so now I can use emulators, and watch downloaded videos over my home network and everything, it's great.

A month or so later, we bought a 360, so now the old xbox is just for watching TV episodes and playing around with some other homebrew stuff. And the 360 for games.

I've got tomb raider legend, but it doesn't work on 360, so I've not been playing it, totally forgetting that I can still play it on the old xbox!!!! I've so damn dumb! I'm actually getting a component cable for the old xbox now too, so I use it as a HD upscaling DVD player, yes that's right, the old xbox is a better DVD player than the 360, go figure.

hehe, the old Xbox with XBMC was brilliant. If my dvd rom in my old system hadn't busted I'd be using that for playing DVD's and Xvid etc from the net.

yes, XBMC is a prime example of original manufacturers killing a product well before it's time. The xbox was so much better than MS allowed it to be. Even just little things like internet radio, CDDB querying for audio CD's, internet time server updating of the system clock, picture and musci sharing over a home network, simple web browsing, virtual console style game emulation, upscaling DVD's to 720p resolution. All are being done right now using XBMC on the original XBox, and most still can't be done on the 360.

You can but an old xbox for £30 - $50 these days so if you've not done it yet, go buy one, mod it, have fun, and wonder at what might have been.

Last game I played on my Xbox was Mario 64. Perfect emulation.

My Xbox is so old that I managed to upgrade the HD to a whopping 30GB before Microsoft introduced the HD check to ban Xboxes from Live. I now have one of the last remaining modded and upgraded Xboxes capable of connecting to Live ;)

Not that I do. I have a 360.

Yeah i loved the media centre. Burning movies to disc and watching them on your xbox :o) Good stuff!

BUrning, discs? Pah! Playing DivX's over the network, that, ma boy, were the bees knees ;)

At least the movie-watching part Microsoft has learned; with Connect 360, my Xbox 360 can even play movies that are stored on my Mac.

It still amazes me that those corporate control freaks are so learn-resistant that they refuse to accept that in the end the most open platform will always succeed, and never the one that was nailed and shut and did not play well with others.

Anyway. In the case of the 360, I do not really care. I bought the baby to play games, and that job she does perfectly the way she is.
