Who's pre-ordered GTA4?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Who's pre-ordered GTA4?

I could stop myself, I completed Crackdown a week ago, and have been thinking of getting GTA4, I just flipped a second ago and pre-ordered it on play.com.

Who's with me?!!?!?!

I'm thinking about it...but I have a lot of stuff to play from my rental service ATM, I might just put it on high priority and wait for it to arrive, it's availble for rental the same day as the retail release. I think the demand for it will probably be pretty phenomenal though so it might be easier just to buy it if it takes a long time to turn up.

Darkheart

I hope you got that little extra off with this post! ... http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=77427#866395

Anyone know when it will be comming out for the PC?. I bet thats at least a year away :(

I'm probably selling a few older games off soon, so that'll make up some of the cost. I've just got this feeling it'll be brilliant. Looking back, the last 3 3D gta games were really good for the time too, and this one looks like a lot of work's gone into it.

I bought Vice city on the day it was released (at 9AM when the shop opened), and that was well worth it.

I just wish they'd make a crackdown 2, cause that game kicks ass.

Yeah, at least a year for PC, and by then all the hype will have died down. Still the modding community normmally does good things with GTA games.

For the PC version,12 months seem to be the turnaround for big budget AAA titles, I think it's mostly goverened by publishers deals with the console companies more than anything else.

Darkheart

I'll probably give it a year and buy it on budget once they've fixed the bugs.

I'd normally wait too, but I occasiaonally get excited by new games.

and the other GTA games didn't have any real bugs in them, so I'd expect this one to be pretty bug free too.

There were bugs in the multiplayer code on GTA 1, but that was solved in GTA 2. (yes, I'm old school GTA)

Oh yes, it's what my PS3 craves. Bring on some GTA mutiplayer action. Andy, which format you getting it on?

I usually do what Rob does...

One reason obviously is to save money, the second reason is that when any BIG game gets released, we usually have a thread here about it and from peoples small reviews, I get a bigger picture. If anyone can critic a new game, its good old fashioned game developers themselves, not poncy journalists in magazines! :)

360, sry.

I thinking about buying it with PS 3 :) end of the month.
maybe ;)

I pre-ordered it yesterday, and it's due to arrive on the day I hand my masters' project in. Good timing!

don't start playing it before you hand in your paper, you might miss the deadline!

To answer the original question: I didn't because I don't care for that kind of game and genre... Have fun with it, though. ;-)

I did yesterday, hope it comes ontime!

I traded in my old simpsons game at gamestop and pre-ordered it for the PS3 yesterday.

I wonder if they will release a version for NES?

Needless to say, with my only console being a NES, I won't be ordering it.

You traded simpsons for GTA, so.... playing the simpsons movie game makes you want to kill things so you buy GTA?

The newest trailer for GTA looks great, it's the main character walking towards the camera with loads of different scenes going on behind him, the lighting looks brilliant and the actions of the NPC's are totally realistic.

It looks like they've actually managed to build a living breathing world to play in.

The part i'm looking forward to is the multiplayer. Just one ring on your cell phone and your in multiplayer. In the WHOLE CITY! Man, that's be gonna awesome...

mmm, deathmatching in GTA, that's gonna rule so much. I'll be the guy with the rocket launcher firing down on people. Can't wait.

Mind and post your id's if your PS3 owners :o) We can have a blitz GTA 4 game :o)

I've never played a GTA so far. Never liked what i saw...

I would love to, but as im only 15, i may not be able to get it. :(

I bought the last three but didn't play San Andreas very much - too much of the same thing. So no. And I much prefer PC to console.

I pre ordered this for my ps3, and will be picking it up tonight at midnight. Love the series, and from what reviews i've read, this one should not dissapoint. We'll see.

I cracked and bought it this morning after reading IGN's review, I can almost hear the marketing people laughing...

Darkheart

Preordered it for X360 2 days ago.
This is my first GTA since GTA 3. Didn't buy the others past it.

There wasn't much in the games past GTA 3. Some better controls, like he could jump fences and swim without drowning, which was good. But graphically, it was still pretty slow moving.

The new one looks extremely impressive, and according to the reviews, it plays great on both consoles!

Played and complete all of the series - they've all been excellent in different ways - but I'm waiting for a PC release for IV as I much prefer a mouse/keyboard setup.

childish game

Is it difficult to pop down the shops when it's released? I've never pre-ordered a game. I've never had any trouble buying a new game on the release date either.

GTA4 looks pretty good. I enjoyed the last few of 'em, and (judging by the previews, admittedly) this new one seems to have tweaked the formula and gameplay systems enough to avoid the game becoming too stale and samey.

I don't care for the GTA series. I quite liked the original 2D game which was ok for some quick fun. The 3D games were all boring, with tedious repetitive errands that seem to have inspired how MMORPG's like WOW work. I did like watching how the city traffic responded to my car, but thats only fun for 5 minutes. The rest of the games seemed a bit retarted to play. More fun to listen to from the next room.

I enjoyed GTA3, but I've got to say I didn't like the character I was playing - he was basically a murderous thug.

It looks great, but the content is just too dodge for me. I won't be going anywhere near it.

Just Cause is still entertaining enough for me, anyhow. Hillarious AI, crashes, and an island environment so large is makes GTA's cities look tiny. The game is proof bugs can make for one of the funniest gaming experiences. I laugh every time I play it.

I pre-ordered the full DVD-release Sam & Max season 1 from Amazon, because it was actually cheaper that way... ($19.95 with free shipping)

So, who's playing it now then? Is it good?

Not me.

I'd be tempted to get a X360 for it. However, I'd prefer a PS3 since I can play GT5 on it as well. They need to bring the price down a bit first so its something like competitive with the X360 though.

GTA: San Andreas was sold out everywhere on its release date. I know because I trawled around half of South Yorkshire trying to find a copy.

Bah! Play.com showed they had stock when I ordered and my order was "awaiting delivery" last night. Now, on the day of release, it's "awaiting stock", I hate it when retailers "bait and switch" you like that. I shall buy it locally today and tell Play.com to go whistle.

Darkheart

I checked it out on play.com a few days ago, and it said orders will be fulfilled on a strictly "first come, first served" basis.

To me that doesn't guarantee you'll get it quick even if you pre-order it.

I'm going out today to get my PS3 + GTA4. Hopefully they set aside games with the bundles, but i imagine they'll have plenty of copies, since the first sales day will probably be a record breaker.

amazon said they despatched mine yesterday, which was nice. The estimated delivery was like the 6th a couple of days ago.

Are the Royal Mail employing tortoises now??

I picked it up in WHSmiths this morning. Don't know if stocks are low in general or not. They only had 2 copies left and Argos are sold out, but where I live, Woolworths and Game are the ones with the big stocks, the others only ever get a handful.

I would be playing it now, but I've had my publisher on the phone wanting some information about translations, so I guess it'll have to wait.

There was once GrandThefTendo, but it's gone now :-(

as for GTA4. Wow, GTA3 but with more graphics and online.

Anyone else remember GTA vice city online? what was that, 5 years ago?

It's not just better graphics and online, the gameplay is so much better. Just the fact that driving down the street doesn't bring the game to a crawl is great, but the new aiming and combat system is brilliant too.

The online system looks great though. A quick ingame ring on your mobile and your practically playing against 16 players in the whole city. Can't wait! I haven't been this excited abouit a game in years :o)

Sad, i know. Just hope i get it!

I bought my PS3 copy of GTA IV in my local Tescos at 6:45 this morning. They had a couple of big display stands but all the copies of the Xbox 360 version had sold out and there was only 2 copies of the PS3 version left after I purchased mine.

Problem is I am stick in work until 4:00 this afternoon so I will have to wait another 4 hours until I can get home and play it.

Went to a deserted Game at lunchtime to see if they had a copy on sale. They did have lots of copies to look at priced £45 but when I asked if I could buy one I was told scornfully, "You should have pre-ordered it 6 months ago!". I asked if they knew when they would get any stock and was simply told "No idea mate.", I remebered why I stopped shopping at Game and places like it and left.

Pff, should have bought it last week from Gameplay before they put up their out-of-stock notices.

Darkheart

Just popped into Fareham (Hampshire, UK) at lunchtime for a browse, and every store I went in that stocked games (GAME, Woolworths, WHSmith) had plentiful copies of GTAIV for both formats.

Wii Fit is another matter, can't find that for love nor money (except at inflated prices on eBay).

I've had that treatment in Game before. where they've got plenty of display cases but no actual stock. They just give you a strange look when you enquire why the boxes are even on display if they can't sell it to you.

Another ridiculous thing they do is put the price of new games lower than the pre-owned version, then refuse to sell the pre-owned version for less than the new price, even when they've ran out of stock of the new ones, it's insane! Bunch of muppets.

lol, I've had that too, and they just can't seem to understand that the pre-owned won't sell if it's £5 more than the new copy.

that and the problem that Game stores are so cramped you can find yourself physically blocked into the back of the store so have to wait for people to move to get out again. Somehow Gamestation manage to stock more titles with less room. Oh yes, that's because they don't use AN ENTIRE SHELF FOR ONE GAME!!! Actually, game use about five shevles for some games, and this is well before the game even comes out.

That's it, I'm firebombing Game, and I've not even played GTA yet ;-P

Just in case anyone in West Yorkshire is hunting for a copy; I picked one up in HMV at the Geldered Road Shopping Centre at J27 outside Leeds on the way home. They had quite a lot of stock 360 & PS3. I reckon out of town shopping centres are probably the most likely places to have stock, the kids can't get out there easily and parents are loathe to go there during the week.

I haven't been to a HMV for years, it was empty too, the only problem was finding a member of staff (they seem to hide and not at the checkouts).

Darkheart

so, I'm going to be giving the multiplayer a go tonight. If anyone wants a game, add me - my gamertag's ChristianP.

hey guys, i'm browsing this site on my ps3! pretty cool stuff. i need a keyboard really as its a pain to type with the controller. takes ages... gta4 ispretty cool so far and so is the game shop. i bought tekken 5 and it didn't take too long to install and download.

what the hell are you talking about? Can you browse the web using GTA on your PS3 and buy real games through GTA? Or are you mixing topics here?

Oh, never mind, I see you bought a PS3 at the same time. I'm guessing PS3 has a similar online games thing to 360. 360 lets you buy old Xbox box games online too, that and loads of xbox live arcade games. It's a shame GTA PS3 and 360 don't play against each other online, that'd be really cool. the games are meant to be virtually identical, so really it comes down to the politics between microsoft and sony why this can't happen.

yeah def. i bought tekken 5 dr off the online store as you can't buy it anywhere else. i'm loving it so far

I've got tekken 5 on PS2, it's pretty cool, and plays at 480p.

Has it got the radio stations? I love the radio stations.

Well that was a quick 3 and 1/2 half hours.

Wow.

Yes there are even more raio stations with more content.

I can't find Flash FM though (I may have missed it somehow) and I miss Toni...

Darkheart

I want to play it.

How come everyone else is playing it?

The first several jobs seem more like crazy taxi, but its a great addition to the series, multiplayer is very nice. Im on the PSN network, anyone here can add me for some GTA4 online my name on PSN is CoffeeBuzz77

I have to admit I have very very impressed with GTA IV. I was a bit skeptical and it being over-hyped when I read all the reviews giving it perfect 10s. But I have to admit it is a brilliant game.

I have got the PS3 version and I had a problem last night where I couldn't connect to the multiplayer options. It kept telling me I wasn't connected to a game server. I know I was connected to PSN because I was also downloading the latest Warhawk expansion and the free UT3 maps.

Maybe just a slight blip last night. I'll give it another try tonight.

What is interesting is I was reading this article on the 'net last night (so it must be true!!!) where somebody had examined the resolution of GTA IV and concluded it was running in 620p on the PS3 (not sure about the Xbox 360 version). Mind you, the game does look absolutely stunning.

My name on PSN is thedeathcake.

I'll add you!

THIS IS NOT BEING RELEASED ON PC FOR 6 TO 8 MONTHS!!!

To play it now I will be FORCED to buy either a 360 or a PS3 - FORCED!

I feel it is some kind of discrimination against the PC and I am pretty sure the Court of Human Rights will be most interested. It's like telling a black person waiting for a bus to buy their own bus if they want to ride on a bus.

Due to race hatred against the PC, I shall purchase the XBox 360 Arcade pack which is a reasonable circa £150.00 - hopefully, they bundle the game and console together at a saving. I feel it is somewhat cheeky for me to have to spend at least an additional £150.00 to play a £40.00 game, which I would buy now if it were available - plus, I know I will end up buying it when it comes out on the PC - so I am buying two games and a console to play one game.

Good move. If for no other reason than the Xbox 360 is a cracking console.

I'm getting it as it is a lot cheaper than the PS3 and also because this might be the only game I ever play on it. I purely want to play GTA 4 and not have to wait 6-8 months.

Yes, I second that. I've got a reasonable PC setup, but am really starting to prefer the Xbox for playing games on, simply due to it being simpler and not having to faff about with video options and obsessing over whether I'm getting the best framerate or not.

the XBLA games are great source of inspiration for blitz projects too.

I'm flying back to the UK tonight, should get home for about ten, so once I've said hi to the girlfriend and been to the loo, I'll be on GTA by 10:15, woo hoo!

Okay, maybe I'll actually chat to the girlfriend for a bit first, so 10:30.

Thing is, she's already played it as she's been home all week. Damn her!

Puki, welcome to world of Xbox, not sure if you can rip media from Xbox DVD's though ;-P Would be good to try.

Get yourself a live account, I can see a few blitz user GTA battles coming up.

I can see a few blitz user GTA battles coming up.
It'll be like the Texas chainsaw massacre if the forums are anything to go by. :)

I find it odd that the PS3 version installs to HD, but the 360 version cannot.

I've checked quite a few places whereby they have run comparisons of PS3 v 360 and all of them said there is pretty much no clear winner - PS3 gains from HD install by improving scene loading times by a few seconds.

I loved the fact that you can go to bowling alleys and play other games.

You can see the comparisons here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDPHW8nJfrc

I loved the fact that you can go to bowling alleys and play other games.
You can do that in San Andreas though.

Not bowling though?

I don't think i'll get it just yet but my 2 friends who live together have a ps3 each and a copy of the game now too. My girlfriends dad stood from midnight for 3 hours at a tesco to get his copy.

ps apologies to puki then, maybe cos im so mad with other stuff in rl just saw that and posted without thought, still didn't like the use of a black guy and a bus, people have moved on from that.

Don't think there was bowling, but there were quite a few arcade machines dotted around.

It wasn't a joke. He has a point. Most games that come out for multi-platform consoles, usually mean the PC version is miles off. You wouldn't really get away with that in any other from of business, such as buses only for people who own certain items, or are of a certain race.

In defence of Puki: What racial joke?

regarding the game, I thought you could instal it to hard drive on the xbox, I'll have to check when I get home.

Having said that - the video I posted was uploaded to You Tube a year ago - so the info might be clearly out of date.

YOU NEED TO READ THIS:
GTA 4 plagued with bugs

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/04/29/gta-iv-plagued-bugs

Oh no,
I weakened at lunchtime and picked up a copy for the 360.....
Arrrgh the hype got me :) (looking forward to getting home though ;) )

Almost all my gaming seems to be on the Wii, or the 360 now, if anyone had told me that a year or so ago I wouldn't have believed them....

You complain when they take their time to get stuff working properly. You complain when they release it and things go wrong.

Which would you actually prefer?

Someone post a consise list of *new* features?

Everyone knows that gamers want everything now and bug free. A tantrum is the time honoured way to express this.

What is interesting is I was reading this article on the 'net last night (so it must be true!!!) where somebody had examined the resolution of GTA IV and concluded it was running in 620p on the PS3 (not sure about the Xbox 360 version).

Dunno, but it's running at a very low resolution. It's very noticeable against other XBox360 games. I play at 1280x1024 and it's clearly being rendered at a low resolution and upscaled. It makes everything look pixelly and blurry, and quite frankly, not very attractive. I assumed the PS3 version would be running at native resolution, but I guess not.

Puki, I would buy a 360 WITH a hard drive, there are a few games you can't play without a hard drive (I think GTA4 may be one) and there will probably be more, certainly I appreciate the extra space of my Elite I've only had mine 3 months and I already have 21 GB stored on it.

The PS3 install is mandatory and a pain in the nuts as it does not reduce load times compared to the 360 version (a few other games do this). The 360 version does not require an install and the load times are pretty much the same (quite short).

There is something funny going on with the rendering I don't know exactly what it is, I'm not sure if it's an effect or what. Some things are incredibly detailed and lifelike e.g. the way the water on the road behaves when it's raining.

I'm sure someone will do a disection on how GTA 4 does it's rendering. It's definatly not as precise and clear as Assasin's Creed on 1080P, when that game is running you can go right up to the screen and notice tiny details that are still pin-sharp. I think the draw distance is a bit low, things get too blocky and blurry too early.

If there's a place where reality overcomes the hype it's in the graphics on GTA 4, with all the perfect 10's that have been handed out you might be expecting the game to really be perfect, and of course it's not. However the occasional graphics flaws don't detract from the action of the game and it's story.

Darkheart

I have the PS3 version, and not have any console issues. Installed fine, 1080p is working when turning off the other ps3 display options, no freezing cut-scenes, tweaked the GTA display to look brighter.

The only complaint with the game is the audio options: headphones and stereo. Anyone else getting more options with there ps3?

I also have not tried multiplayer..I guess the servers are down.

Jason

You complain when they take their time to get stuff working properly. You complain when they release it and things go wrong.

Which would you actually prefer?

Well, I certainly never complained about them taking their time to to get the game working correctly and I never complained about the bugs.

What I did squeak about was there is no PC version for 6 - 8 months and that I would have to buy a console to play the game now. I purely posted the bugs link as general info for people - that link was dated 30th April, many people will be unaware of any issues with the game.

"IT SEEMS PS3 owners are suffering some GTA 4 blight of their own, after the infamous prostitute-bashing game was leaked early by pirates on the Xbox 360"

This was a pirate version leaked early. Who cares if these people are hvaing issues :o) I paid for mine and it's working fine. Since mostly all the recent PS3's are built the exact same, i don't see the problem.

GTA was only supposed to be rendered at 720p. So i don't think it IS actually rendering higher than that. Maybe setting it to 1080p is causing the stretching?

It's rendering at 1080p @ 60 Hz on my display, my display confirms it. Like I said in my post above I think the real problem is the draw distance is too low, there is quite a bit of noticeable "pop-in" too.

Is it only the people with pirated PS3 versions that have problems? If so I've no sympathy for them.

Darkheart

Me neither.

Played it for a few hours today, no problems at all. Runs fine. Shame there's no install option on 360 though, the review lied

It does sound like the pirated PS3 versions are causing the problems. *sarcasm mode* Doesn't your heart just bleed for them?!!!

I have a 40gb PS3 and I haven't seen any problems at all. It installed to the hard drive without any problem - albeit taking quite a while (but not quite as long as Devil May Cry 4 took to install!! I could have read the entire lord of the rings while DMC4 installed).

I haven't noticed any other issues with GTA IV. I haven't really noticed much pop-in either but that maybe due to the fact I have been playing it after 11pm and so much brain wasn't working quick enough to notice any pop-ins!!!

Have any of you PS3 GTA IV owners had any problems connecting to multiplayer games?

It's rendering at 1080p @ 60 Hz on my display, my display confirms it.

I don't think you've understood what people are saying. Just because it's in that graphics mode doesn't mean it's rendering at that resolution. Even in Blitz3D, I could run at 1600x1200, render to a 256x256 quad and scale that to the screen. Your "display would confirm" that it was running at 1600x1200 but it wouldn't be rendering at that resolution. And GTA IV clearly is not.

In general, I've noticed a distinctly muted response. Is everyone spending every spare minute playing it or are people a little underwhelmed after all the hype? Personally I think it's just like every other GTA game but a bit more depth, a bit better graphics, etc. So far, I haven't noticed any way to buy properties either, which would actually be a step down from San Andreas. There's nothing wrong with it, it's a decent game, but not the perfect 10 all the reviewers were claiming for me.

I've played it for at least 12 hours (almost non stop, I'm addicted) and it's fab. Hype = True. Everything you want from a GTA game and more. The PS3 version is apparently running at 640p upscaled to 750p, which is something I care very very little about. The game is gorgeous. It crashed (froze and needed to be restarted) once on me, but it's acceptable for an initial release.

As for multiplayer, I've tried at least 50 times but there's no luck, I get the same message each time about the game provider not being available.

Has anyone registered on Rockstar's Social? It'll monitor your stats online and you can partake in competitions. Sweet.

http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/

The game's not as stellar as the critics painted it but it's still very good, multiplayer is very fun on the 360 and very easy to get games. Cops and Robbers is very fun and Deathmatch is a blast, need to get better at it before trying stuff like Team Mafia.

I know what you mean about the difference between rendering and output. What I'm saying is that I'm getting 1080P to the monitor; it could be rendering at 720P and upmixing it but wouldn't the upmix take almost as much time as just rendering at the higher res?

Darkheart

... wouldn't the upmix take almost as much time as just rendering at the higher res?

Nope. And both the PS3 and Xbox360 versions of the game do this.
