Anti alias in Windows Vista looks annoying

gives me a headache. Can't you disable it?

Eew!! why on earth has it got cyan and red in there? Never noticed that before.

In XP it can be done from display>appearance>effects but not sure if vista is the same. Mabe if you choose classic look it will be there. Also, try changing to an arial font or something? Might help take out the complexity. :/

all fonts everywhere looks like this, although you don't really notice the effect when working. also i don't want to turn off AA completely. if there is no solution, it doesnt matter that much... jus wanted to tell the world about the new AA looks.

on the PCs in my school fonts look like that because of the very old matrox graphic card. but i have a x1900gt, so why should it be a problem?

Do you have an LCD or CRT?

By default Vista uses Cleartype anti-aliasing, which is made for LCD's but looks crap on CRT's. furthermore -- there are different *ways* that an LCD's cells may be arranged that may need to be tweaked. There is a cleartype tuner that allows you to pick the proper settings for your display, or you can disable cleartype alltogether and use the old-fashioned font smoothing.

xlsior is mistaken. ClearType is designed for LCD screens. Don't us it for CRTs.

i have a TFT flat screen. where do i choose the right font AA type now?
(would be helpful to know the path for the german version of vista)

i have a tft and i have disabled cleartype and i am VERY happy with my pixelfont. cleartype makes me think i need glasses (unsharp and blurry).

Well here's some news. Real life IS unsharp and blurry.

go get some glasses m8 ;-)

That cleartype seems to make it worse not better. There is definetely something weird going on with it, i compared my display (a TFT) with fonts from vista and ubuntu/gnome (posted above for better comp).
The weird coloring in the vista fonts is possibly whats making them look blurrier.
A gimmick perhaps? :/
