Been here since Gfk work in Guild House Leisure (correct name?), as he sent me an email to recover my BUID. Infact a good few months before that. Althought, my user ID is pretty big. There must have been a boom when i bought it. Must be about 5-6 years ago?

I only joined online in circa 2002/2003 - but I have been using Blitz since circa 1991, so I think I count as one of the big-boys. My original BUID was six hundred and something. So, I was inside the first 700 original Blitzers - baring in mind that probably hundreds ordered it when they saw the Amiga Format advert.

I was Larch on the mailing list. I think I've always been Craig Kiesau on the forums. I'm wagering I didn't join the forums until sometime in 2001 though.

I think it was sometime in 2000 I tripped over Blitz PC. I remember the front page of the site had a black background with the content in a small gathering in the centre of the page. It was the one that preceded the forums that preceded the BlitzBasement that preceded the forums that Mark did from scratch (the pretty blue ones) that have evolved into what we have today.

Either way, my first ever 'game' in Blitz (coded in the very generous Blitz2D demo) started with:

Why?: Was looking for a simple, compiled, powerful language that was capable of being used for wide variety of purposes.

Usage: Originally used it purely for work apps but all the community work in games got me interested in the whole bedroom coding scene again. When B3D came out this really took off although mostly resulted in a litter of unfinished projects mostly due to being a bit too ambitious.

Flying/Fighting game similar in concept to Battelfield 2142 (unfinished).
Studio Max -> Blitz convertor (supersceded by Pudding's superior Max Pipleline).

Had heard of Blitz on the Amiga (used AMOS), but wasn't easy to get in Australia at the time. My brother read somewhere a PC version was being made and I found Mark's One Page (I think from memory) BlitzBasic website (green background like the editor!).

Biggest Moment: Mark replied to an e-mail about using types in my Delta remake (C64 game).

Lots of unfinished projects! If I ever finish Project Studio I will enjoy getting back to some 2d games.

People often used to throw hissy fits, claim that they were leaving for ever!!!, and then... coming back. We don't get as much of that, sadly.

I'm glad that Gfk returned though - he's a decent bloke.

Biggest moment is a nice idea...hmm...i guess this would be when i used BlitzMax on my Mini (G4, 1.25GHz G4, crappy 32MB 9200er) and realised that BlitzMax on the Mac was a lot faster than Director on my PC (P4 2.8GHZ, with a 128MB 9800Pro). This was fun... :O)

Biggest dissapointment definately is the delay of the 3d module and the lack of information on this one.

Average impression, an overall comfortable place. Sometimes strange opinions but people speak what they think without the business blabla and they at least have some background from their age - see amiga/c64. If you've ever been on a list with 15-20 year old (wanna be) game developers then you know what i mean. Some members have a tendency towards investigating/using/talking about meaningless technology instead of finishing something with the available ones but on the other side those who manage are often doing a fine job and not seldom their games have a certain touch which i really like. Anyway it's a enrichment seeing through different eyes and i like this place! :O)

Nov 2004 Bought BlitzPlus and joined the forum. Clearly I'm a bit fat NOOB still then. Of course I did buy BBasic2 for Amiga all those years back which is why when I saw BlitzPlus for PC I *immediately* downloaded it. Weird I never found it before...

I'd love to go to a Blitz meetup. Just went to an Indiegamer UK meetup, and there were 8 of us (met Cygnus) so that was cool! Thing is the best thing is probably to have AREA-based meetups because the country is pretty big after all. e.g. North, and South, or maybe even more specific. Then travel costs will be less which is good because travel costs normally put many people off. If anyone feels like organising one, please start a new thread! (I did one in Bridport a couple of years back and met Indiepath and SoggyP which was nice)

Probably around 2000, like LineOf7s, I recall the *OLD* original site. Bought B2D when it was released and B3D after a few weeks.

yeah, you'd need a archiving system for your emails -- scary. Flamingo Land is cheaper than Alton Towers.... Not so sure it's as well placed though. Alton Towers is struggling for pubs though.... So, how about the west midlands.... central ish enough ? So far I think Grey Alien, Scribbla moi and puki are on the list. Anyhow, 1st post on the PC version for moi was on variable path names 2 years ago.

Yeah, I was one of the (20?) beta testers for BlitzBasic (2D) on the PC (but under a different username). George Bray sent me a full boxed copy as a thank you. Goodness knows how long ago that was!

Lurked until Blitz3D came out.

Worked on AmiBlitz (Produced the original manual and wrote the first 3rd party lib, Arexx support!)

Still have my old Blitz2 Manual, original glue bound one in big cardboard box. Binding on those manuals was shite though. Printed at theuniversity printers in Orakei NZ. Still remember lugging all the manuals upstairs in boxes in St Kevins Arcade with skidracer.

Joined in 2003 with B+ under the handle '0DFEx'. It was a really clever nick because the first 4 letters were all hexadecimal and it was meant to be pronounced 'zero defex', as in 'The Tuck Pendleton Machine, zero defects'. Like I say, it was really clever... erm... never mind.

Also gone by the names Falken (a nod to Wargames), RAM (from TRON) and Nomen luni (a room from Jet Set Willy)

but ive been doing CFF since 2002 and living near by since the week after the 2003 one (spent the weekend avoiding propper music cd stall and 'folkie' instruments as i had to pay months advance and deposit on the tuesday after the fest or wait for another trip down and room to let ... and its not sensible sleeping in a tent with £500 cash on you cos the daily limit was 'only' £200 at the time iir)

re blodrone/ginger tea
i took a british sign language class in 04 (failed the exam in 05 due to external issues) and i got 'start to sign' by RNID towards the end of the course, a visual dictionarry but listed by catagories not alphabetical (like my other older one)
in the preface chapter they spoke about sign names, our teacher never gave us one hed normally just point at us and hope we knew which of us he meant "me" i mouth pointing to myself "him" to my class buddy was normally the end result

but i found the sign for ginger the colour of my hair (and perhaps the root whatever) in a hand out and tea the drink to represent T for Tony my middle name that i have gone by since 2000
i even introduce myself to people as ginger tea and my works forms are always signed gngr t3a, which i wanted as a motorcycle style number plate but without a drivers licence showing it they wouldnt believe it was a made up thing and not even real to the DVLA (well i assume they dont have it on the books ;) )

blodrone the music project is as ever on hold, for the most part i only had my bass but no fx or anything to record onto
now i have fx and a portable SD based 4 track but no free time to do anything with it
