Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Rob farley and moderation

Hi Rob,

Hope this post doesn't get deleted. You strongly objected to the Anawiki post for a discount on his games. I would like to offer a different point of view please.

Basically, Anawiki gave mark some money towards his living. Mark sold him a product, thats for starters.

Second, this guy makes a living from his games. This is his income, this isn't about begging, its about feeding your kids. Its not about lettuice, fags or kebabs, but surviving.

On other forums people know he uses blitzmax to make a living with, and this is giving more money to Mark, more interest.

That is all I have to say. You don't lock or put down developers who want to make a living from blitzmax. You encourage them. That is all I have to say and thank you for reading.

I locked the thread because the thread was talking all about me rather than Anawiki's games or products and had clearly gone off topic. He met his 200 target so he achieved everything he wanted from the posted thread. There was no need to continue the discussion.

I do not know about Anawiki's procreational status, diet requirements or drug habits. I'm sure if he has spawned then Lettuce is more than likely to come into it. Likewise if he hasn't spawned I would suspect beer and kebabs are a likely component of his diet. As it happens Anawiki doesn't appear to be nearly as upset as you. I made no personal attack on anyone I merely suggested a new forum.

I'm pretty sure my comments have not crushed Anawiki and I'm sure he's not rocking forwards and backwards in a darkened room sobbing uncontrollably listening to 'bedshaped' by keane on repeat.

As I said in the previous thread, If you have issue with my moderation then complain to blitz research, if you think I am breaking forum rules and should be banned then complain to blitz research.

Ironically from the faq
Please accept the moderator's decision as final. There is no point in appealing or posting the same thing again, as it will simply be deleted or locked again.

That thread did get a little uncomfortable.

Personally i thought it was a good idea of anawiki's and was not offended at all.
Of course different things offend different people.

Rob does do a good job and has been very helpful to people, myself included from his demo source when i was learning b3d.

I certainly do not dissagree with him for posting his comments (we are all entitled to our opinion) its what a good discussive forum is all about. However, I did think (in this case) it was a bit OTT to lock the thread, it wasnt getting nasty, heated, far off topic or breaking the rules, so i dont really understand why it was locked either.

Anyway, Let sleeping threads lie.

Morning Rob, you obviously finished typing first :)

I merely suggested another forum
Perhaps a forum for hawking blitz related stuff & sales talk would be a good idea?
Call it "The Market" or something.

LoL

99% of the people who promote their software on the forums, do so via marketing. They announce their release and maybe offer a discount to fellow Blitzers. Anawiki is the only one here I have seen use the televangelist approach and say "help me make 200 sales this month, buy my products". Since any wino laying in the gutter can beg, I can understand why somebody would not consider it marketing as one would expect from a software developer.

Just because you are a mod does not mean you do not have opinions. Rob Farley merely shared his and should not be persecuted for it. Just my opinion.

Some people just don't like others having a wee bit more power than them ;o)

I think it was locked for the reason of not letting it spiral out of control, like so many threads have. As mentioned, the guy had got his 200 sales.

BUT, i don't think the comments of begging were needed. No-one tells Grey Alien he's begging when he's posting about his framework, nor am i suggesting he does.

Anawiki's post was marketing.

Yes. He offered a really big discount, in fact.

How's it begging? He was offering something for the money. I wasn't in the market for a game, so I didn't purchase. I didn't feel guilty about it.

You wouldn't let it lieeeeeeeeee!!!

Stop that talk, Hujiklo.. or I'm fetching the Chives......

It wasn't the chives themselves - it was the soil that they grew in that he was scared of. I remember them revealing that fact.

I started the thread about 200 sales for 2 main reasons:
- to get that few extra sales
- to share information that small devs can actually achieve that level of sales. If you ever tried to sell your game you know it's not easy and it took me 2 years to reach that levels of sales

Personally, I found Rob's post offensife (rude), but didn't want go into that. If it was like: "Roman, stop begging, buy some ads" then fine, but I am not sure why he had to add the rest.

Though I am cool guy and if it makes someone happier I don't mind that much if one whine about the world or me.

Keep smiling :)

Roman
