Help me beat 200 sales a month!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Help me beat 200 sales a month!
Hi
So while I am still far away from great sales it looks like March is our best month ever. And if you are so kind you can help us beat 200 sales a month - we need just 19 more games sold. To make it easier for you, here's a great discount:
Save 70% on any ANAWIKI game (you can buy more than one). Type LETSBEAT200 in coupon code area. Offer expires today.
It's just $6. It's even cheaper than on BFG ;-)
My recommendations: Runes 2, Pony World.

Pony world? I am SO there!
You're almost making 200 sales a month? On how many games? And did you make those, are are you selling them as an affiliate?
Looks like my sales are up to around 30+ copies a month now.
"Looks like my sales are up to around 30+ copies a month now." Nice! What game are you selling? Do you have a main website?
We sell few affiliate titles, so those 185 sales (so far) are mostly from games developed by ANAWIKI. We have released 6 titles so far, but majority of sales in March is made by Runes of Avalon 2 and Pony World.
How do you manage to sell so many copies? I'm lucky if I get 200 visitors per month :'(
JA2, you could start by putting your website in your forum signature and a link in your user profile.
@JA2: talk on forums, ask for reviews, advertise, start a blog, sell (or at least try to) affiliate games, do press-release, launch on portals, have a newsletter.
It all adds up.
We need 15 more sales :)
cheers

Done ;o)
I've submitted PAD files of my game demos to 50 download sites. I was thinking about starting a blog, I'll look into that now then... How do you get reviews and do press-releases?
:)
Read my blog, there are some tips:
http://www.anawiki.com/sellmoregames/I've just looked at your site. So few more tips:
- design a better website
- make better screenshots
- improve your game art
Make that 14 more sales. :)
Cheers!
haha, nice one 200 is a great target for a month. Well not many hours left now...
And/Or, why not visit MY site and donate some money.
I'll spend it on booze and peanuts... and maybe a kebab.
Help me reach 200 units of alcohol per month. That's around 100 pints of weak lager a month or just over 3 pints a day.
Help me get so bladdered that I vomit in a shop doorway and cack my pants... YOU CAN HELP!
or to put it another way
Can you spare any change? Just give me money. Come on... Cough up.... GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
Why don't we just set up a begging forum where people ask people for money / booze / smokes / Lettuce etc.
"Nice! What game are you selling? Do you have a main website?"
Not a game:

Thank you very much for your help. It was fun and guess what, while we didn't beat 200, we reached exactly 200 sales which is GREAT! :)
I know, it's odd when you see such a round number.
@Rob: chill out. You don't want to help - fine. You want to help - great. It was a great opportunity for some to get our game(s) for a bergain price, and those games are really nice.
best greetings
Roman
Congrats, I can't believe you made it haha! I thought you'd be about 10 short. well sone.

For a moderator (who in theory should set an example) I've noticed you are quite often rude. Just an observation (realise my comment may appear rude itself, so, sorry.)
For a moderator (who in theory should set an example)
As it happens I moderate quite heavily and stop a lot of threads getting out of hand. However, if you want to make a complaint then do so. I'm unpaid, so if BR decide to drop my mod rights I won't lose any sleep over it.
I've noticed you are quite often rude
Quite possibly, on this occasion I find begging on a forum somewhat distasteful. This is my opinion not BR. Of course you may also notice that I am sometimes helpful too.
Ironically this bickering is giving Roman's games an even higher profile so hey, maybe it was all a scam that I dreamt up and I'm getting 50% of his profit?!
If Rob is a mod, I applaud him for not deleting the thread as would have surely happend on most other forums.

Likewise.
As for Mr Farley's moderator status, I for one would like to say I think he does a great job. He's always been relatively outspoken (although certainly not as much as some) and I don't see why anyone should have to stop being themselves just because they're a moderator.
Of course you may also notice that I am sometimes helpful too.
Agreed and I've seen many well placed locks too. Perhaps I'm extra sensitive to rudeness today... ;-)
I didn't find this thread offensive, it's just a bit of marketing (I don't see it as begging) and to help out a fellow developer, but perhaps that's because I come from a similar viewpoint as Anawiki. Plus it obviously worked, lol.
Great comedian but marketing is a fact of life for businesses. Lots of marketing may seem distasteful to many people (e.g. I find all the adverts in kids programs distasteful) but it basically works and thus will continue. If someone is not in the job of running a business that needs marketing, it's easy to sit back and sneer at it, but other people's livelihoods depend on it. Often "tasteful" marketing fails to work as effectively as "in your face" marketing.
And/Or, why not visit MY site and donate some money.
I'll spend it on booze and peanuts... and maybe a kebab.
I think I donated to you once. And if I'd known this was what you would spend the money on... I would probably have donated more :)
Gotta go with Grey Alien on this one.
Rob's been very helpful in the past (especially to noobs like me a few years ago), but I don't think anawiki's promoting of his software was in any way begging or distasteful. $14USD of the retail price seems more like an inducement, nudge, or promotion for buying software made with a Blitz product.
Lots of people do that, but no one got tagged as a beggar for doing so. Apparently asking straight up for a sale seems to rub some people the wrong way.
The way I look at it, if BRL forum users (people who paid for a Blitz product) are offered what appears to me, a huge discount for an item that otherwise would have been passed up. That's good marketing! A sale for 30% of retail vs. 0% of retail (no sale) is still a win.
I'm certainly not wanting to start an off-topic argument, but often I see people jumping into threads with something negative to say, and often it's the same people - it's like a habit for them. There's a saying that goes something like "if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything" and I think there's a lot of truth to that. I try to follow it but sometimes fail.
Remember the age-old argument about TV that you find offensive? "If you don't like it don't watch it." Yeah, good point. So if you don't like a thread, don't read it and don't bother to post in it. Plenty of threads aren't relevant to me or don't interest me, but I don't post saying "I find this thread boring can you talk about something else please".
I realise that it may seem like I contradicted my own advice here by my initial comment to Rob, however, I tried to make sure that it was an "Observation" and not a negative personal attack - I hope that much is apparent. I also applaud Rob for not making a personal attack back, which is people sometimes do if they feel threatened by an observation about their behaviour. It's all about being civilised. What I often wonder when I see certain posts is if that person would say that right to the other person's face, and I expect that the answer would be "no" in many cases, so why type it on a forum?
OK, pretty sure I won't derail this thread any more now. Sorry Anawiki.
I thought Runes of Avalon was good and superbly polished when i tried it - AND crossplatform! I would probably buy it if I was rich, but just bought a 6 bedroom appartment with the missuz so have no money (she is keeping tabs for a while!) :(
- :D Can anyone buy me a copy? o_O :D
2Ps worth: I do not find it distateful or unwanted at all to have Blitz users trying to sell Blitz-made products on the Blitz site to the Blitz Community .
Unity rules!.. (and all that).
mmmmm lettuce...
I'm not sure what to think on this one. It did come across a bit 'pleady', but maybe that's simply because of a small lack of English fluency from a Polish national. Or if this request was re-phrased and the author simply offered a discount without the weird sales target pitch then I think it would have gone unnoticed, and instead we'd all be tucked up tight in our bunk-beds, fast asleep, conserving our energies for the dawn of another hard day's Blitzing tomorrow.
Um, whats the problem?
I never see anybody kick off like this when Grey Alien touts for sales (no offence). Roman makes some nice games and he's generally quite understated in how he goes about getting sales.
You should be happy that he's even writing games in Blitz, not whining about him actually wanting his games to sell. Unless you're letting the green eyed monster cloud your judgement a little...
No idea and i fully agree.
The community should be congratulating him & interested in the achievements, not treating him like some cheap forum spammer.
So congrats Roman on your 200 sales!, its encouraging to hear :)
No problem...but why should I be glad somebody is writing games in Blitz or my aunt Nelly's gibberish cipher?
why should I be glad somebody is writing games in Blitz
It comes back to what Flameduck was saying a few days ago about the "sense of community". My bad for forgetting that the community isn't what it used to be.
Personally, I find it encouraging. I'm making and selling games via my own website and it's nice to see others being successful. I hope I can get somewhere near that amount of sales on a monthly bases before too long ;o)
but why should I be glad somebody is writing games in Blitz or my aunt Nelly's gibberish cipher?
It comes back to what Flameduck was saying a few days ago about the "sense of community".
or if you're more mercenary :
More games sold, more exposure of the language.
More exposure of the language, more potential sales.
More potential sales, more chance of development and continued support.
.
Not always the case but can't hurt.
p.s. As for the question of 'begging' I don't see the difference between this approach and others. In fact, for those interested in the games, it's 70% just for visiting the Blitz Forums.
I like to see what people have made with Blitz. I read Anawiki's pitch as being slightly tongue-in-cheek, but essentially he's offering a decent discount to drum up a bit more business. Where's the harm in that?
Well, in-fact, personally, I am glad that these games are being written in Blitz but I wouldn't say it's just for the community, more because BRL deserve it for making such a great, easy to learn, and rock solid programming language.
Either way, I don't have a problem with people touting their games here, but in this instance I can also see why it came across a bit odd to some people.
but why should I be glad somebody is writing games in Blitz or my aunt Nelly's gibberish cipher?

Not sure who you were posting for previously but it seems you can answer your own question.
I read all this and not sure what to say. Once again thank you for your support and excuse me my poor English skills. I didn't mean to offend anyone.
cheers
Roman
TonyG - I wanted to know why GFK thought I should be pleased, that's all.
This is definitely a mole-hill that became a mountain! If only there was an Olympics for this - Blitzers would get so many golds!!
LOL!
We should all start a tabloid :D
(.. mabe not, we would all be arguing over the paper type and font to use. :)
Recycled and Tahoma.
Case closed.
