3 previous versions rule (Photoshop)?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/3 previous versions rule (Photoshop)?

Is it true that Photoshop Software pre CS3 where you buy the CS 8.0 upgrade that you don't need to be 3 previous version back in order to use the upgrade?

The Adobe website has been very unresponsive for me lately when searching for info. I did manage to find this about photoshop CS2.

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/pdfs/pscs2_faq.pdf

On page 4 of the document it states that any prior version of photoshop is needed before you are eligable to use and buy the Photoshop CS2 upgrade.

I need to know if it's the same for Photoshop CS 8.0.

Here's why. I bought another version of Photoshop from ebay. The seller was selling a photoshop CS 8.0 upgrade and a previous Photoshop 4.0. Both versions are sealed and legal as the seller stated in his auction that both can be registered in my name with Adobe.

His feedback was good and others who bought the same package reported no problems and have stated that they registered both versions in their name with adobe when I contacted them and asked.

All in all it's cost me $307 which is around £150 + shipping and any import fee's I'll have to pay when it gets delivered to me.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yes Adobe has the 3 versions back rule.

CS3 upgrade -> 7.0, CS, CS2 needed
I know because I own 6.0 and missed the possibility because I was out of cash back then ...

Yes I know they have a 3 previous version rule for CS3. I'm not upgrading to CS3.

I'm using photoshop 4.0 to upgrade to Photoshop CS 8.0. The pdf document states that to use and be eligable for the CS2 upgrade you have to have any previous version of photoshop.

Like I said, I just need to know if the same rule applies for the Photoshop CS8.0 upgrade i.e. Can I upgrade from photoshop 4.0 to 8.0?

The only people that can answer your question definativly are adobe. If there a little hard to get ahold of, then try ringing a local/regional reseller, they make their money only on direct sales, so will be a little more active in thier guidence :)

Hi boomboom!

Yeah it looks like the best thing to do is to call them and find out. It's just it's Sunday today and I thought I'd post to see if anyone had any info on the subject.

I'll give them a call tomorrow.

You can not upgrade to a Photoshop Version lower than CS3.
Adobe stops selling them and stops the upgrade process.

And from 3.0 you can only upgrade to 7.0 and need to upgrade another time to 8.0
But as both can not be bought anymore, you can not upgrade anymore most likely.
